The Atlanta Braves

No problem with the TDA deal, what if we didn’t extend him and rolled with Shea and he struggled like Pache did and we have no choice but to rely on a Kevan Smith type catcher. Now with TDA being in the fold for two more years it gives Shea one more year of development assuming TDA is still performing at a relatively high level and when Shew is ready TDA can be a quality backup or trade him. I expect Shea to be the opening day catcher 2023.

That’s not the case with Shea. Worst case you get good defense at the position with the occasional bomb. Hell Mike Zunino is like a top 5 catcher in the game right now. The position sucks. Willy for sent down because he was struggling offensively and defensively. Can’t Compare the Pache situation IMO because we were a bat short regardless of position

Shea has no say on being traded. All he can do is quit or play. He probably plays at AAA to begin ‘21 for 30 days so the Braves keep an extra year of control. TDA is a valuable asset that several teams would want when Shea proves he can handle the bulk at MLB level. Willie will probably never be an everyday catcher, but serviceable DH and backup.
