The Atlanta Braves

Bringing Joey Aguilar back adds another two or three wins to your projected win total in 2026.

Aguilar in year 2 of this offense gives Tennessee the best chance at a playoff spot. Aguilar threw for over 3,500 yards and I think 25 tds. I just don't see you getting that out of Gmac or Brandon in year 1 as a starter.

I've posted it several times but look at the CFP Playoffs 9 of 12 teams had older transfer portal QB's including the Final 4.
Last year's Joey + better defense (I know this is somewhat presumptuous, but surely it will be better) is a playoff bubble team. I say borderline because the schedule should be quite a bit harder than last year.

I agree with @Carp that the odds of GMac or FB being better than Joey next year aren't real good.
Joey struggles a lot on short/intermediary throws. Against OU he looked scared to death. UGA was 3 50/50 balls away from a blowout.
He's not going to keep getting lucky on 50/50 balls.

It's already been established that isn't true. Joey started out the UGA game like 13/13 or something crazy like that. The 3rd Quarter we hit a wall, but Joey was money every other quarter vs UGA.

From a roster standpoint, I’m fine with JA coming back. But…

From an NCAA eligibility standpoint…what are we doing here? Dude has been in some form of collegiate football for 7 years. He’s freaking 24 years old. Enough.

5 years to play 4 and let’s move on.
It really should be 5 years to play 4 and international leagues, JUCO, etc. all count towards your 5. No go if you go pro.

Can't say I blame him if he can make 2m playing here next year

Zack and I just had a thoughtful, from-many-different-angles discussion of this whole JA thing on the pod because, well, we sorta have to....... But this is the actual answer (and I think Z would essentially agree).

Baseball Preview and eventually MLB Preview episodes coming y'all's way.

And this week's - on bball, JA, what a CFB trade deadline would look like, and super bowl - coming at you soon.

Since y’all discussed the new staff on the last pod:

As for off-season workouts, they are on and they are serious. There’s not a bunch of music playing and there’s not much messing around with the new staff. It is all about the work in the weight room and on the practice field. The buzz word continues to be accountability. Players have to sign in for workouts and there is even some weekend work.

“I would describe it as work,” running back DeSean Bishop said of strength coach Derek Owings. “It’s a lot different than last year. We have been put through the fire a little bit and that’s exactly what we need. We believe it’s going to help us become the team that we want to be. I’m looking forward to what else he has to offer for us.”

Multiple players have told us, “it’s hard and it was needed. This is going to help us.”

The accountability also carries over into the nutrition side with random checks of players meals in the cafeteria and with Owings and nutritionists Katie O’Conner working very hands on with the chefs/cooks on what’s being prepped for players to eat.

As the off-season work was described to Volquest, “It’s intense, it’s scientific and it’s very methodical.”
