The Atlanta Braves Thread

On XM MLB Network just now Matt Diaz said the craziest thing he ever saw was at Spring Training one year in the early 2000s the Braves let Tiger Woods into an intersquad game and he singled off John Smoltz.

I back pruitt because it’s year 2. I don’t know if he’s going to make it or not. I see a lot of positives to support that with the staff hires/recruiting etc.

I don’t support Snit because I’ve seen blunder after blunder since he became the manager. We are a talented team. That’s the main reason we are winning. Our guys also play hard for him which is another reason. But in a close game in the playoffs I don’t want Snitker making key decisions that impact the game. That’s why I want a new manager. We could upgrade in a big way.

This is a false equivalency you’re trying to make. It would be more alike if Snit was managing the Marlins. That’s what Pruitt was doing last year.
Not a defense of Snit at all (I like him as a baseball dude - he has people's backs and the guys seem to like him) because I don't think he's a great tactician, but let's be honest...what managers are? It seems like every year in the playoffs, every manager (even the dude managing the team who wins the WS) has numerous decisions scrutinized, and I'm not taking about in a 20/20 hindsight, after it has played out kind of way. I mean in an immediately as they are made kind of way. And most of the time the fans bleating about it are right.

Baseball, to a much greater extent than other sports, is simply about the guys on the field performing. I don't really think there's much managers can do to add wins. Perhaps take wins away, but not add more beyond what would have happened otherwise. Mike Trout is going to be an incredible hitter no matter who the manager is. Tom Brady, meanwhile, probably isn't as good as he is without Belichick. Same as Mahomes with Reid, or Mayfield/Murray with Lincoln Riley.

thought it was interesting that although they have the same record, the chance at making the playoffs for Philly and New York are vastly different.

From a poster on VQ...tifwiw
From A Very Reliable Source

-Ansley is very confident in the defense as a whole

- Roman Harrison is going to be a star

- Ansley said we won’t be giving up big plays this year like we did the last couple of years

- DL is large. Very large. Staff doesn’t think they’ll be a liability

- Henry T will be freshman all sec. possibly all American

- Pruitt said he came in last year over confident and was humbled very quickly. Won’t make that mistake again this year

- Feels 8 wins is the floor

- JG is actually a legitimate QB. The hype is very real. No fluff

- If the season started tomorrow, Trey Smith would start. As of right now he is cleared to play. Staff keeping that quiet

- Eric Gray is that dude. If he stays healthy, he could win the heisman

- Palmer is going to have a big year

- Watch for Crouch in goal line formations

- staff said they will NOT be losing to Florida this year

- the team has a chip on their shoulders this year due to the fact nobody is talking about them.

I don't really believe any of this, but posted in the RF.

Any chance he’s eligible?
I’m not sure. Here is what SI said:

Kasim Hill: The former Maryland quarterback has been in the portal since February, though he remains on the Terrapins’ roster while he recovers from a November ACL tear. It was his second knee injury in two years, which is of more than a little concern, but Hill was able to take a redshirt his freshman year and thus will be a sophomore wherever he ends up. As for why he’s leaving Maryland, the short answer is Josh Jackson, the Virginia Tech transfer who put up 2,991 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his only full season (2017) in Blacksburg.
In 10 games last year, Hill completed 49.4% of passes for 1,083 yards and put up a not-so-stellar ratio of nine touchdowns to four interceptions. A dual-threat guy, Hill wasn’t so lucky rushing in 2018, when he took 40 attempts and wound up with -15 yards. So far, there’s been little word about where Hill might land or updates on his recovery; he’s barely six months out from a major knee injury.

I've bolded the ones that could be remotely true. Hell, I think JG showed he was a "legitimate" (as in, pretty good) QB last year given that when he had time to throw the ball he could make nice throws. I bolded the one about Henry T because Pruitt made a point in his first press conference about how he "got it" and the game comes naturally to him - he doesn't blow smoke up people's asses, especially true freshmen.
