Heartbreaker for the softball team. Had OU beat and got walked off on a 3 run bomb
Maybe I'm exaggerating, but if softball was a higher profile sport Karen Weekly might be the most unpopular coach on campus. It is absolutely maddening how her teams lose, and they always lose in the exact same way (have dominant pitching usually in the form of a single starting pitcher, but score just a couple of runs and have to hold on for dear life).

I know she's gotten there a bunch of times and that's worth something, but her WCWS record all-time is 16-17.

I agree she isn't very good. For years though everyone blamed Ralph, people are just now realizing she isn't very good either.
I actually dont mind pitching to that OU girl in that situation, but I do hate the pitch calling, KP throws 75 consistently and you call back to back changeups which KP consistently hangs.

Monica Abbott has been going in on Karen this season, and she was very loud after the walk off yesterday. IDK if she would want it, but id be curious to see what she's do with the program.

Also this hitting coach she's hired is teaching one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. I've watched a lot of ball and even played myself, I've never seen a coach teach this two handed split grip thing they're doing.

Yeah - I noticed Abbott's tweets yesterday after the game, but apparently she's been doing it all season.

It's tough because Tennessee has had the softball success it has largely because of her, yet at the same time I'm not sure she's a great coach. Softball (and women's sports generally) aren't anywhere near as deep as men's sports. I don't think you really know the quality of team you have until you get deep into the postseason. When she faces off against comparable teams in the WCWS, she's basically a .500 coach, and loses games for the same reason over and over again. Monica Abbott, as I understand it, is like the Michael Jordan/Wayne Gretzky of college softball pitchers and Weekly wasn't even able to win a title with her pitching every game. She had a career ERA under 1.
