Ouch“It’s brutal,” Matt Olson said.
“We have nobody to blame but ourselves,” Strider said.
“No habla,” Acuña said.
Maybe he just didn’t want to talk about the loss or the playoff exit — although that didn’t stop his teammates from answering questions like professionals. Maybe he didn’t want to revisit how he went from an MVP-caliber regular season to hitting .143 (2-for-14) in the series and going 0-for-4 while stranding five baserunners in the elimination game. Maybe not talking is just a page out of his own, secret leadership handbook. If so, he should burn it.
Normally I'm not a big "that team wanted it more" guy or "this team wilted under pressure" guy when he comes to looking for reasons for defeats. However I could not help but notice that a bunch of guys had despondent looks in that dugout early in Game 1 when Suarez mowed them all down the first time through the order. Ronald in particular, but also saw it from Ozzie and others.
That's one thing to have that look late in a series when you're definitely getting eliminated, or if you're absolutely getting your ass kicked in a game. It's another to have that look early in the very first game, and the game was tied at zero. It was so damn early for them to already look that discouraged.
Feelings of deja vu from 2022 playoffs? They were absolutely intimidated. You can tell by their swings and approach

Maybe, but it was amazing to me how quickly they seemed to get discouraged given the regular season they had. They murdered baseballs basically every day for 6 months, and it was like after one trip through the order, in a home game, they decided they didn't have it.
