The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness

I’m not denying that is funny, but I hate sensational headlines like that. The guy was a starting quarterback for North Dakota State in May and recruited by Iowa State. It’s not like he’s some NAIA backup or some 27 year old who hasn’t played in five years.

How else would you phrase the headline though? I mean, he is a graduate assistant that had no plans to actually play there. He was only starting for NDSU because of COVID moving their season to the spring, otherwise Lance would have played.

I just think it’s sort of a cheap headline personally. Yes it’s funny that SC has to start a guy who was done with football and helping out on staff. I’m not denying that. But it feels a little cheap, like this guy has never played football before or it’s been years since he played. You could have easily added “former NDSU QB”

Lol come on now, you too 🌶 🥵 today

I mean the guy threw 14 passing attempts in 2019 and that was the last of his “body” of work. And has 190 attempts to his name. Adding former NDSU QB to the headline doesn’t church it up that much

It definitely doesn't make the headline as attention-getting though; I see his point. I wouldn't call the headline as written click-baity or sensational but a headline of "Ex-NDSU QB, graduate assistant Zeb Nowland to start for South Carolina" probably paints a better picture of the situation.

As written, you can kind of be led to believe that he's a GA off the street who never played football before or hasn't played in years, which isn't accurate. He did start last year, but only because it was a flukish Spring COVID schedule.
