The Atlanta Braves

But what if you don't win and you are still stuck with a mega contract . A-Rod and Pujols

You’re a billionaire. You’ve got a huge TV contract to cushion the blow. You eat the money and move on. You don’t have to let it hamstring you like the Braves did the Mike Hampton contract unless you choose to.

He hit .249 last year. He has only hit .300 or better 2 times. Only had one 100 RBI year.

If I'm paying that much, I'm caring about RBI's

I don’t care about average or RBI’s. The guy is elite at getting on base and crushes the ball.

The problem is though that our rivals saw that and have made major moves to get better. Other than Donaldson you can argue that the braves have gotten worse. And there's no guarantee that Donaldson will be better than Camargo was last year. Or even if he'll stay healthy. That's not supposed to happen coming off of winning the division.
That makes no sense. Name a single position where the Braves got worse? MAYBE Catcher.

13 years... lol

Well the Phils didn't lie... they spent some stupid money... they will have Harper for five or six years when he turns into Ryan Howard 2.0

I don’t see that happening unless Bryce tears his Achilles.

Catcher and RF. Markakis will not be as good as he was last year. We also lost Anibal Sanchez. Very possible that the rotation will not be as good as it was with him last year considering he was our number 2 and we didn't add a frontline starter. So yes. Worse in 3 areas.

I could argue we are NOT better than last year
If you assume another year of improvement for Acuña, Ozzie, Camargo and Dansby in addition to our pitching staff and adding Josh Donaldson, there’s no way for me to believe we shouldn’t be better.

You can say all those guys regress - and maybe they do - but it could happen to all the other NL east teams as well.

We’re better going into this season - with a ton of room to improve.

Ozzie will NEVER have a half season that matches last year’s 1H. EVER.

Lmao it’s an easy argument to make

Ozzie’s 1H
Acuna’s 2H
RF will obviously be worse
Catcher will be worse
The rotation will (sorry everyone) be worse

I’m just not buying it yet. It’s possible - but anything is possible right now. We’re a month away from opening day.

I just think there are too many good arms for the pitching to regress.

Y’all can be all doom and gloom you wanna be but I’m going into this year knowing we can compete for the division and we still have, by leaps and bounds, the best farm system in the East.

Future is still bright - even if the competition is tougher.

Ozzie is 22, what if he improves over last year?
Acuna is 21, what if he improves over last year?
Dansby is 25, he can definitely improve over last year.
Freddie is old af at 29 obviously. As is Ender at 28. Julio should retire being so old at 28.

Touki is 22, Soroka is 21, Allard is 21, B Wilson is 21, Gohara is 22, Newk is 25, and Fried is 25...

I'm not sure how you surmise the team is worse. A large majority of the contributing team is under 25. They are not even at the most productive years of the average MLB player (late 20s).

Could they have a fall off from last year? Of course, it's baseball. Could they make last year look like a joke with monster numbers this year? Of course, it's baseball.

I'd rather have a pool of young players that have already seen the field and tasted playoff baseball versus spending 100s of millions to look up a single player. The folks that run this world (the banks) diversify their criminal activities... I mean... investments.

Well yeah I am definitely exaggerating but the simple point is they are paying him for 13 years hoping the first five or six are historic years from a baseball perspective. I don't think you're expecting years 10, 11, 12, and 13 to be Bonds-like.

Is this where I tell him about the international sanctions?
