The Atlanta Braves

This is awesome. Just great.

I know it sucks but I’m just not sure what we were supposed to do.

If you grant me that ownership didn’t allow AA to get into the Harper/Machado bids, and the Marlins weren’t trading JTR to us without getting Albies, I’m not sure anything else puts us ahead of what the Phillies were always going to be able to afford to do.

JTR was in the cards even without Albies we just didn’t want to give up Riley and one of our top pitching prospects.

We could trade for anyone we want basically. We could have gotten Segura. We could have gotten Domingo Santana. We could have traded for Wil Myers. We could have made a trade for Kluber or Bauer. We could have signed Grandal or McCutchen.

Sign Grandal for $23M instead of Donaldson
Trade Riley/Anderson/Wilson for Haniger
Trade Ender/Fried/Prospect for Bauer

Acuna
Haniger
Freeman
Grandal
Camargo
Markakis
Ozzie
Swanson

Rotation
Bauer
Folty
Newk
Gausman
Teheran

There ya go

But what if you don't win and you are still stuck with a mega contract . A-Rod and Pujols

The Angels signed Pujols but weren’t coming off winning the division or have a top 5 Farm in baseball. They also didn’t have guys like Acuna (well Trout), but didn’t have guys like Folty, Ozzie, Freddie, etc. Also Pujols is in his 40’s, Bryce’s contract will be done after 38

Still think Nationals are the favorites but Phillies ahead of us now. They added the best catcher in baseball, a top 10 SS, and a guy with a career 139 OPS+...I have little hope for this year now.
We playing fantasy baseball or are they actually going to play the games?

If I was going to give that much money and years then the guy needs to be a triple crown threat . He isn't .

He’s one of the top 15 hitters in baseball and about to enter his prime with his ceiling being the best non Barry Bonds season this century by a LHH. Who cares about RBI’s the guy can takes and gets on base at a .400 clip

All of this and more. LM did what they always did. They went cheap.

I think the point is we wouldn’t have bet on th to win the division last year either.
The problem is though that our rivals saw that and have made major moves to get better. Other than Donaldson you can argue that the braves have gotten worse. And there's no guarantee that Donaldson will be better than Camargo was last year. Or even if he'll stay healthy. That's not supposed to happen coming off of winning the division.

The Phillies and Mets are better than they were last year and the Nats are still super dangerous
I don’t disagree. But we’re better than last year too.

And we’re not done making moves. Maybe not by opening day, but we’ll do something.

I agree that we should have already done more. I’m with you 100%. But it’s not like we’re out of the hunt.

Our team as it stands CAN win the division still. And we’re going to add more.

He hit .249 last year. He has only hit .300 or better 2 times. Only had one 100 RBI year.

If I'm paying that much, I'm caring about RBI's

I could argue we are NOT better than last year

13 years... lol

Well the Phils didn't lie... they spent some stupid money... they will have Harper for five or six years when he turns into Ryan Howard 2.0
