Last year he missed two months and the oblique bothered him all year.

Again, he has to split time and the Braves haven't been DH'ing him because of Ozuna. When he's getting 500 PA's, he's been a top 5 catcher. He was 2nd in WAR in 2023. The only no doubters better than him are Raleigh, Smith and Contreras.

Murphy is definitely still top 5. Among catchers this year, he sits 9th in fWAR despite splitting time with Baldwin. Several of the guys above him in fWAR are either having career years (Kelly, Langeliers, Kirk, Goodman) or they don't really have enough career PAs to establish a baseline yet (Navares and Dingler).

The only catchers I would comfortably say are better than Murphy are Raleigh, Smith, and Contreras (crying emoji). I would have had Rutchman and Realmuto above him before this season, but this is 2 straight seasons of the same underwhelming performance from Rutchman and Realmuto is 34 and he looks cooked. Drake is probably better on his offense, but he doesn't come close to Murph on defense right now.

Sean Murphy isn’t even the best catcher on this team.

Out of all the talent we’ve organizational had the last few years, I would gladly take Baldwin, Shea, and Contreras over him. All younger, all cheaper, all healthier, all around all better.

Shea is not better than Murphy. Neither offensively or defensively. He's been red hot the last 3 weeks. Before the ASB he had a .709 OPS.
