The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

Harrison Bailey being QB 1 when we go to Gainsville would be quite the turn of events.

If Lagway has to miss more than a couple weeks during SEC play, Napier is likely finished at UF and we'll be facing a UF team with an interim HC. Florida won't accept another 7-5 season or worse. Well, maybe if they manage to beat UGA he could get another season going 7-5.

I really hope that doesn't happen and Billy can have a good enough season to remain. UF is eventually going to hire a Kirby or Urban-type coach again that will be a recruiting juggernaut and rattle off multiple national titles over a span of several years. We're lucky they haven't hired one of those already.

I know there aren't divisions anymore, but having elite coaches at UGA and UF would be less than ideal.

Maybe. But we went through the wilderness for over a decade. Even though UF has cycled through coaches, they have all had some pretty decent success with each one (save Napier)

Also, I think the portal and the expanded playoff is a game changer in reference to dynasties in CFB. I think the age of dynasties is gone. The Bamas and UGAs can't hoard 5 stars 3 deep anymore. And the SEC in general is full of more quality coaches and evenly matched teams than at any point I can recall in my lifetime. Last year alone I think 7 SEC teams had 2 losses or less entering week 12, which is crazy.

Also, the expanded CFP and mega conferences make it more difficult to pull good HCs away from other programs. Someone like Rhett Lashlee is gonna be less likely to leave SMU since he knows the path to a CFP berth is likely much easier in the ACC. And he certainly isn't going to leave a team that might be loaded with talent to go rebuild a program somewhere else.

Not only that, but any team that fires a HC in-season will want a new HC in place before the early signing period. And a HC on a team in the CFP or CFP hunt absolutely isn't leaving that job before his CFP run is over.

I am certainly thankful we got Heupel when we did and hopefully we don't have to go through replacing a HC for next decade or so.

Those are all good points. I don't know if the age of dynasties is gone. I think over time some schools will prove to be consistently better than others at playing the portal and managing NIL, but I think there is more parity in the sport for the reasons you mentioned. Despite a lot of concerns to the contrary.

I'm very curious with the government involvement under Trump if we are going to see a significant slowdown in the player movement. Playing time will obviously be important but it seems like the NIL caps are going to be a factor and that should let teams build up depth.

I can’t imagine that the NIL caps are going to fly.

I think that'll be a nothingburger.
