The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

.269
12 HR
42 RBI

Not great, but that's all star level compared to most of his teammates.

There's many more problems than Austin
He’s the biggest disappointment considering he’s the $200 million dollar man and he gave that weak, dumb quote. Zero leadership and it shows

He’s been league average with the bat and he’s paid like a superstar. He’s also continually gotten worse. Pair that with his lack of leadership and below average defense … yeah, he's one of the main issues here.

Austin and Ozzie are both still struggling with power after last year's broken wrist. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Bigger than Harris or Ozzie?

You're acting like hes hitting .210 with 5 HR.

I dont have a problem with his quote either. What did he say that wasn't true? He was honest.

Harris is the biggest disappointment, without question.

I would cast a vote for Riley being the biggest problem.

Ozzie is irrelevant

We spend over 9 million in the regular draft, and you generally are only going to hit on 1 or 2 or those guys in a 20 round draft every year (assuming you are even drafting well).

So spending a few million in the international market seems like a decent investment. The problem is that we couldn't spend in the intl market until recently due to the sanctions.

It’s a pretty rare occurrence for these highly touted IFA guys to pan out. I don’t like the strategy and they’re already locked in to sign the top guy for 2027.

There are only a handful of guys getting over 1 million in the international market every year. Meanwhile the first like 80 picks in the MLB draft have a slot value of at least 1 million, not to mention a few dozen others that will get over slot values more than 1 million. I imagine the hit rates are probably pretty similar. Out the top 100 drafted players, only a handful have impactful major league careers.

I’m going the guess that draft hit rate is 10 times higher than drawing 15 year olds names out of a hat and giving them life changing money

I'd rather not see another long term deal for a young player. Riley has been good but his OBA/SLG/OPS have declined every year since 2021. I'm sure his advanced metrics are much the same. I'm not sure he'll even hit 25 bombs.

There is some data out there from people that have tracked it. And the difference isn't that drastic. Around 10-15% of players picked in the top 100 of the MLB draft go on to have impactful major league careers (meaning <or= 10 caeer fWAR, or at least 1 season of 3 or more fWAR).

And it's roughly the same for the international classes among the top 30 or so signings. A=bout 2-3 per class have impactful careers. The caveat being that most them rarely make it past AA.

The MLB draft has more certainty since the vast majority of the top 100 picks actually reach the majors, but most are replacement level.

It's all a crap shoot, regardless if it's draft or international signings. But the more shots you take, the better your chances of hitting on one of them.
