The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

Im not saying the stuff isnt there or that he would definitely revert back. He has just spent more time as a starter being inconsistent though unless I'm misremembering. If they move him, I'm cool with that. I just like the Newk that has been coming out of the pen and mowing grass.
Yeah I get what you’re saying. If it ain’t broke don’t fixing it kinda think.. Newk is just an exception imo.

I’ll take it even FURTHER, I think Newk is an All Star caliber SP. Last night routine fly balls were souvenirs, basically every pitcher that checked in got beat up besides him.

He located every one of his pitches, changed speeds, changed elevations.. they didn’t stand a chance.

All Newk has to do is believe in himself, and he is getting there.
Some guys are just better in shorter stints man. He has been good, but I’m still leery of him facing a lineup multiple times. The most encouraging thing is no random ass walks which hurt him bad starting.

He has three plus pitches. The only thing that matters with him is command. He can face the same lineup 100 times if he’s commanding those three pitches he’s going to get outs. Max has two pitches. If anyone needs shorter stints it’s him until he gets that slider out of the happy zone and a little more crisp.

He does not have 3 plus pitches, if he did this would not even be a discussion.

He pumped the FB last night, and the change looked good, but his curve have been inconsistent all year. The change up coming along would go a long ways for him

So yes, this is true. And logic usually dictates that it will catch up to him.

But when you’re stuff isn’t that good, walks aren’t kryptonite. I’d rather he walk a guy throwing a slider 3-1, then groove a 90 MPH fastball to just try and get a strike to make it 3-2 and give up extra base hits. It can be frustrating how he knibbles but it’s better than grooving stuff, which he was doing last year
And while we’re here..... I’m gonna need you to put some RESPECT my man’s slider.

Hm

FB, CB, CH all +

He made Polanco look like a chump with CH in, CH in, FB right on by. Mac >>>>>>>>>>flowers

“Pumping FB last night” like someone kind of (inaccurate) backhand compliment but haters gonna hate

So he has no command, but has found something in the pen as is attacking, and yall want to move him? Ok
Lmao. I love how people are talking like his 5 IP last night have anything to do with some epiphany he had. Like the mound is a different height if you don’t start the game or you get a different baseball if you come out of the bullpen. He lost his job and thought what the hell, might as well throw it over the plate and see what happens. He can take the same mindset right back into the rotation. He didn’t “find something” he’s going to lose if he gets moved back to the rotation. Pitching is pitching.

And with all due respect to nick pollack (I’m sure he’s a great guy with very, very extensive baseball knowledge and not a blogger) but if you click one tab back to his 2018 summary you will see a “tantalizing strikeout profile” from someone equally as knowledgable spending 3 minutes doing a write up on every pitcher in the world.

Come on AV, it’s never been a question of “stuff” with Newk. It’s always been command.

And I don’t understand why everyone wrote him off so fast. He had a bad few months, he is a young pitcher, that’s expected. His career numbers are still good really relative to youth/experience. He needed to stop nibbling and trust his stuff. He has done that. Give the man the damn ball and let’s go.

I don’t care where he pitches as long as he pitches. Snit out here treating him like a short leash loogy with jake webb luke jackson and josh tomlin recording all the big outs. Newk has more + pitches than those dudes combined.

Not to mention the two dudes in the rotation with an ERA north of points Tennessee’s offense averaged last season.

Whatever he “found” was in Gwinnett (as a starter), not the bullpen

Anyway, we’re in first place and here’s to 7 strong from Folty tonight

True. I was wrong on that. I should have said fastball stuff.

His change is solid too, wish they called it more

Guess I’m just making stuff up
Never heard of that dude, but that's a 100% spot-on analysis of Newcomb.

Both Newcomb and Folty look like guys who could be really good one day. The problem is that we're going on 3+ or in Folty's case, 5+ years where we're saying that about them. They have clear tools, but are unable to put it together.
