The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

Even if you accept the stupid decision to use him as a pinch runner, you absolutely CANNOT wave him with no outs with any reasonable chance of a play at the plate much less him being dead and needing to slide

And he can’t dive head first with his friggin pitching arm into a waiting catcher

SMH
Lol... I read this and went and found the highlight since I missed the game. Just insanely dumb by Wash. In the postgame on the radio, Fried said the dive wasnt by design. He stumbled and was going to faceplant if he didn't dive.

I was screaming at the TV when Fried dove headfirst with his pitching arm stretched out in front of the catcher. Lol

At least there's a clear path into first. Diving into home is just begging for a shinguard or spikes to the hands/arms/face.
But the base is elevated, begging to jam a thumb/finger/wrist and there is often some defensive player running towards the base while also trying to catch a tossed ball.

There should be a special jacket for pitchers to wear when they're sent in to pinch run that keeps their pitching arm heavily padded and cinched up against their chest. What a potential disaster that was.

Wherever is most dangerous, the overarching theme is -DON'T SLIDE HEAD FIRST. The numbers say the injury rate is nearly double that of sliding feet first.

Shoulder is the obvious concern diving into home

The landing, the shin guard, the catcher coming down on you.. diving into home is the most dangerous.

Diving into first, absent a wide throw and tag play, is the dumbest because it slows you down
