The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

Platoon baseball, huh? Lord knows that’ll get YOU all hot n bothered.

Actually just because I think something is the right way to play doesn’t mean I find it the most enjoyable.

For example, I am not a huge fan of 60 three pointers a game but it’s the right way to strategize in the NBA.

Im not a fan of platoon baseball but understand why people use it.

Spill the blood of a live chicken. Please.

That’s true.

I think baseball can make some tweaks, but man it feels like Manfred and company overreact. Baseball still kills in local ratings. Still makes $3B more than the NBA. Still averages more per game than NBA/NHL. Still has the highest salaries. Playoff rating right in line with the NBA. I get it, the National ratings on regular season games are not great, but you know what hurts them? They’re still terrible at marketing players.
They are super duper overprotective of MLB related media too.

Here’s a question related to the future of baseball:
how many in this thread are 25+ white guys that grew up in - at least - lower middle class families?

My general theory is that baseball has a higher cost of entry. Even if it’s non organized, to play in a way that looks like the actual game, you need a pretty large field, a ball (likely more than one), a bat, and gloves. To play organized ball as a kid it is even more expensive.

So the younger generation, and the minority communities that football and basketball dominate in the United States don’t generally care about baseball - or want to change it - because they don’t care about it or didn’t grow up invested in it.

I’m just spitballing here. This thought came to me because I listen to the Effectively Wild FanGraphs podcast and there’s a Facebook group associated with it that I’m a member of - I was looking at posts/comments/etc. and I would say 99% of the people participating were middle aged white guys.

Me too. Just for the fact that it elongates careers.

You get old and you can’t play the field, but you can still hit dingers.
Exactly. And I'm tired of watching the braves with men on and two outs with a chance to make an impact in the game and the starting pitcher batting .52 walks up to the plate.

Universal DH would actually speed up the game as well. Fewer PH, fewer double switches, fewer wasted AB by overmatched pitcher-hitters. As far as speeding up play related to relief pitchers, stipulate that the incoming reliever gets as many warm up pitches as the departing reliever threw, unless there was an injury. Your LOOGY threw one pitch and you’re going to the next guy? He should be warm already.
