I don’t think that’s necessarily the case, and the Shoop hire is the perfect example. Everyone was excited about Shoop and I don’t know that most of the fan base held that hire against Jones when it went south. I think the same thing could apply to this situation. If he hired from within, and it’s questioned from the start, there’s no escape when it goes south.

I think Pruitt is far better off to hire someone like Freeze from an optics perspective in the event that we still suck in 2 years.

Never heard anyone say anything positive about him either. Should be fine. We’ll see how he adjusts to not being the man. Because he is not

I mean....he still got fired, didn’t he? People still blamed Butch for cratering out of the Sugar Bowl in 2016 when Shoops’s defense was the main reason.

I guess I just don’t think the optics of the hire matter at all, except maybe for ~60 days’ worth of recruiting. An exciting hire won’t do anything to protect him if he doesn’t start winning soon.

The upshot is probably just that I think the roster is so awful that it almost doesn't matter who he hires and we're probably going to be terrible forever and I will probably die before I see us beat team red again. Merry Christmas and thank God for Ronald Acuña.
