0 chance there’s smoke leading to anyone in any meaningful way until an AD is in place. Now, I haven’t read down the message board yet, but I assume that hasn’t happened yet.

I have not seen any figures regarding his buyout with Alabama but I don’t see it being a concern if Tennessee wants him bad enough.

Later in the article: "We hear that some very influential Tennessee people are interested in O’Brien."

It’s not the money. It’s the fact he could tutor a 5 star QB for a year and then end up back in the NFL. Or at a school like OSU or OU if Riley or Day went pro.

All this is so dependent on sanctions. If you can get by with a one year bowl ban and not too many scholarships lost, UT would be a great job for anyone up and coming. They'd get a pass for probably 3 years to turn things around and a new AD would be incentivized to help a new coach remake the program.

Key is you have to minimize the penalties and just completely turn the page.

I don't know if that's smoke....

However, I would be fine with an O'Brien hire. He did better than expected at Penn State, considering the circumstances, and was a fairly successful NFL coach with just two blemishes in terms of seasons. I would get on board with it, especially if he brought together a solid staff of NFL caliber assistants.

No blue don't? Spurrier quit because he got tired of coaching and the all the time that it took. He was an old school ball coach that wanted to do different things and loved sports. Football is 24/7 and his heart wasn't in it. Can't blame him though. 2010 isn't 1990 in terms of the job responsibilities and requirements.

I think his success at Penn State is another thing that points to him making sense.

Spurrier quit because he was old, tired, and the game passed him by. He was about to lose again to Butch and he quit before that happnend.

And that happened 6 years ago. He ain't younger now.

He would turn down an HC position in the SEC just because he doesn’t want to make Saban mad? The seriously doubt that.
