I saw Konami's lawyers told Hideo Kojima he couldn't attend. That's f'd up.

Without him and Igarashi, they wouldn't be anywhere close to where they've come.

To be honest, I thought either Bloodborne or Metal Gear Phantom Pain deserved to win Game of the Year. Don't get me wrong, I liked The Witcher 3. It's a beautiful and ambitious game but it had it's flaws. For one, the main story was not that great IMO. I was kind of bored with it after a while, especially after you complete the Bloody Baron quest. I actually found the side quest stories to be way more interesting. Plus there was just way too much dialogue in the game. I get that it's an RPG but good god! After a while I'm just like "skip, skip, skip, skip, etc." Also the mechanics were servicable but I didn't find them particularly great. The sword play at times felt clunky, especially compared to Bloodborne's melee system. Also I thought Mario Maker should've at least been nominated for GOTY.

I agree with this. I love old JRPGs and many new WRPGs, but I don't feel like I'm "role playing" when I'm forced to play as a pre-set character with a pre-set story, you know? You get to do that with Bloodborne, Souls, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout (to an extent). I also enjoyed that Bloodborne and the Souls games don't beat you over the head with dialogue and cut scenes.

And don't get me started on Bloodborne/Souls combat. It is vastly superior to any sword combat in any game series. Ever. Period.

LOL I agree. Though I have to say, Greg Miller's acceptance speech was really great. I think it's just a part of the social media culture with gaming. There are a lot of video game-centric characters on those channels with shows that a lot of people tune in to. Guys like Angry Joe, Pewdipie, Greg Miller, Colin Moriarty, etc are trailblazers.

My personal favorite category is "Most Anticipated Game" LOL WTF?? So now we're giving out awards to games that haven't been released yet?

I hate that guy. He's like a bad version of the Angry Video Game Nerd (who himself has gotten stale).

he's definitely campy but I tend to agree with *most* of his reviews.

I can't bring myself to watch a man-child who calls himself "pewdipie" though

Yeah I agree with him most of the time as well. However his problem is he only has one volume....loud! After you listen to it for a while you tend to want to tune him out.

The whole "angry reviewer" thing kind of peaked in 2010-2011, and now it just seems silly. There aren't that many around that still do it, but I do laugh when I come across some new person trying to do it, because at this point it's almost retro.

Glad to see No Man's Sky get an award before it even releases. That's my vote for GOTY next year if it lives up to it's hype.

Oh my, that takes me back.

Yeah, he was awesome for about his first 2-3 years. I still watch his stuff but it's pretty much mailing it in now.

I also remember The Irate Gamer, who was a blatant ripoff of the AVGN; so much that a few of his first episodes were of the exact same games the AVGN did and he even tried to use the same catchphrases and all.

AVGN somehow invented a few new swear words back in his prime; when many of his rants were epic. His take on TMNT is probably my favorite.

Hard to believe it was first posted 9 years ago!!

Yep, back when he was The Angry Nintendo Nerd. He had to change it when he started making money off of it.
