I thought this was a good thread idea, so, here it goes.

What effect do yall think Rick Barnes will have on the university of Tennessee ? Not just basketball wise, but to bring more exposure to the university and have us a well known school like UK for instance, I have some friends over seas who know what UK is but don't know ut even exist.

And from a recruiting point, what type of player do you expect in say, 2 years?
A: top 100 and top 20 talent
B. Good talent
C decent talent

And finally, imo the most important question, will Kevin durant show up to a game just once to support his old head coach? :)
In all seriousness, he did show up to plenty of Texas games while Rick was there, and he speaks high of Rick, so is it really that hard to believe who would come maybe once a year to help excite the fans for Rick?

He'll pull mostly top 100 with a top 20 here and there.
Most kids respect the name once they become aware of his record, as we've already seen from some of the guys he's recruiting.
He also has the rep of getting players into the NBA, which is a HUGE pull for top rated talent.
Hopefully changes in staff and the new start improve his post season performance this time around.
I'm esited!

He brings us instant credibility on name alone. He will undoubtedly bring in Top 100 talent. Tennessee is a national brand and although it has been weak in both basketball and football in recent years, people know the Power T symbol.

We have a long way to go to be part of the blue bloods of college bball and be recognized to casual bball fans overseas, but this is the biggest step as far as a recognizable HC that we've ever gone.

I'm still in shock they actually hired a legitimate, top coach if they tells you anything.

UT is a sleeping giant ready to awaken. Pearl gave us a brief vision of what can happen. Barnes may learn he was at the wrong UT all those years because Vol fans will fully support the basketball program. TBA is an awesome on campus arena. When the recruits come to campus and experience what UT offers along with already knowing what Barnes and staff can do for them - well, the sky is the limit.

2-3 Top 100 and an overall top 30 class. He recruited quite well at Texas and I expect him to recruit well here as well but don't think it will be as good. I'm hoping for a top 15 player before he retires. So like 5-8 years

I think its all about timing. We know the level of recruiting and tournament success he has achieved in the past so he's capable of doing it here as well . Getting those first few kids to start this thing off will be crucial and landing a couple of high ranked players will be the fuel that ignites this rocket. Otherwise a slow start in recruiting will have the opposite effect, I'm just not sold completely on whether he'll be able to do it. But man I 'm hoping .,,

I think Barnes will be able to bring VFLs from our basketball program back around more frequently, like Butch has done with football. It will be wonderful to see players who have played for Barnes or Tennessee in the past that went on to the next level coming around showing support, whether it be Durant, Harris, Lofton, or some older guys like Dale Ellis.

Speaking of Dale Ellis, did you know he held the franchise record for points scored in a season for the SuperSonics (2,253) until the '09-'10 season? He was beat out by...Kevin Durant.

He's the biggest, most respected name we've brought in to coach, and with it brings a priceless amount of respect and success. I think best case scenario he gets us regularly into the NCAAT, gets recruiting up, and leaves a solid foundation for the next guy to take over.

I don't think he IS the future but he's definitely extremely important FOR the future.

Who could be the "next guy." ? That's something I've been thinking about. (As much as I'd love it, no, Bruce ain't coming back.)

"Affect" is a verb.
The team was affected by the PG's injury.

"Effect" is a noun.
The effect of the PG's absence was profound.

The Effect and Draw of Rick Barnes.

Rick Barnes Affects the Draw of Recruits.

Affect is also used in a behavioral and psychological sense. As in, his affect was dull and boring. In Barnes case his affect would be one of confidence and authority. I think either word would fit.

Correct.

One more application I know of is "affect" being a noun that describes the mood and evoked emotions of early Greek musical modes.
The Phrygian mode typically has an affect of happiness and joviality. (pronounced AFF-ekt instead of uh-FEKT)

Very good. However we all know DB wasn't attempting to use affect in either of those two ways. The reason we know this is one of the very next sentences in his post was "What effect do yall think Rick Barnes will have on...."

Now can we all just laugh at the poor guy for a second and move on? I didn't intend to hijack the entire thread.
