Sure.
It doesn't have to be high profile. A good example would be that cop from Auburn who dimed on his colleagues for having insane quotas that unjustifiably infringed on freedom and privacy. They fired him. He should get a promotion, but that's not the way most government works. We tend to either ignore stories like this or side with government.
Small government types are largely dismissed as loons. I don't believe in a single conspiracy theory and I've been asked, "Where is your tin-foil hat?" countless times in political conversations (and ironically a few of those times it turned out the other person subscribed to some conspiracy theories).
