Retarded! An OC job in the SEC is better than the HC job at Ark. St. (except for Vanderbilt and Kentucky)

That depends. He used to coach high school in Arkansas and he might not want to go down with the ship when the USS Cheezit hits an iceberg. It almost makes sense. But still, Arkansas State? The guy must be as dumb as a rock or he doesn't interview well. People greatly overestimated his appeal. He should have left last year.

I was thinking the same thing about him not interviewing well. This is a very interesting, puzzling situation for sure. Then again, maybe he just wanted to go home to Arkansas? Who knows?

Isn't he from Arkansas? If so, he may have taken it to get back home and to set himself up for an eventual HC job at Arkansas. Just a thought.

That is my thought too. He was a coach at Springdale High that had Mitch Mustain (before his mission trips) and Damian Williams that led to his fame. I think he just wants to come back to Arkansas where he started and hopefully take over for Petrino when he leaves.

Local word is that the salary isn't going to be as big a gap as reported. On paper it's about a 50% pay cut, but the "under the table" (house, car, services, appearance fees, etc) money will more than make up for it.

Another rumor is that he is a very religious man and the appeal of the Church Capital of the south was too much.

Lastly, his is great friends with Freeze. Apparently Freeze called him on Monday and sold him on the fact that the schedule is winnable and the roster is stacked for a couple of years. This could be a stepping stone to a huge payday down the road - i.e. the Texas job. More upside in the next few years than Auburn could offer.

104.5 the Zone in Nashville repeated a rumor today on air that when GM interviewed at Vandy he was asked if he could sign a sworn statement to the effect that no taint from the Cam Newton scandal would follow him from AU and he told them he could not sign it.

No inside info here just some friends down on the plains but they tell me he and Chizick were not getting along at all and this was his way out without having to pay a buyout.

This makes a little more sense. There has to be something else at work.

Speaking of Malzahan, does anyone know where I can see the video of his crazy ass wife. I never got to see it.

Wait, what? What kind of buyout are you talking about? Who would have to pay what?

Wouldn't be surprised if that was true

Just spitballing here but most coaches have a buyout clause in their contract, if they leave for a lateral move they owe the school. If they leave for a promotion (OC to HC) they do not owe anything.

FWIW, Auburn had the 104th-ranked offense out of 120 teams this year WITH Malzahn. Both parties are screwed.
