well, it got started over hte weekend.

not a bad draft, steward vs. mendenhall is a debatable point, but i think the panthers had a pretty good draft. If they make the playoffs next year, and that 1st round pick they gave up is in the 20's, not a bad deal at all.

to me, this season comes down to a few things, all of which they tried to answer in the draft.

1. Jake Delhomme. is he really healthy? if not, very long year ahead of the panthers. if so, you can only hope he picks up where he left off last year as he was off to a great start.
2. who is going to be the other WR? blast from the past M. Muhammed is back, and they picked up another WR in f/a, forget his name. they picked up another TE in the draft, and addressed the running game. all of which should help the WR situation out. now somoene just has to step up....or out.
3. O Line. they addressed this.......bold move to move up to another 1st round pick on the Pitt OT. He and Stewart basically have to be impact players this year.
4. DL.....i'm not convinced this is a ok. they addressed some of this late in the draft, and i just heard they picked up Darwin Walker on a 1 year deal, but he's not the same guy he was a few years ago with Philly. the DL will be interesting to whatch.....expecially if Dan Connor doesn't pan out.
5. Secondary...got a safety, at a great value, that should be able to help.

so, when you boil it down to me.......Delhomme's health is no.1 on the priority list. 2 a and 2 b is Stewart and Otah becoming significatn contributors as starters.

if those things prove out to be busts........the panthers are going to suck.

but.......it really wasn't a bad way to start the year. looking forward to mini camp and traning camp already.

I do not follow them but from what I understand it can take a year to a year and a half to be 100% if he can even get there. When was he injured?

3rd game, last season? it was very early on, not sure which game.....3rd or 4th.

word is this injury won't affect him that much as a qb, as it doesn pitchers in baseball. he's been throwing....but there's still the element of the unknown with his accuracy etc.....it's definitely a wait and see.

but they didn't get a qb in the draft, so that told me a lot right there.

Sounds like he will be ok. This far along they should have a pretty good idea where he is at and what to expect. Not drafting a qb could be a pretty good sign.

Feel good about that Stewart pick. I would personally take him over Mendenhall every day of the week. Dude is a freakin' beast.

i hope so milo. he has to be a home run. if not, hearny and fox may be done.

I rarely tend to believe that the career of a coach or front office member hinges on the drafting of one player.

I'm a little concerned about that. We had no solid backup qb last year and I'm not sold on Delhomme being any more accurate than he has been..

Vinny was great when you played the Jags here last year.:p

I really did think you guys might take Henne, Ainge, or even Dixon. I guess they believe in Delhomme. Is he even throwing yet?

ESPN said the only other 2 qbs to get that injury never really played again, granted I don't know if they didn't play again because of the injury, but that was my assumption.

Vinny was so wonderful all around! Woo Grandpa QB! :dance2:

Delhomme, I don't know, I don't like the guy.

Lovely...just lovely. But who were the other 2 guys?

Last year before getting hurt ole "Show me the Chicken" Jake (if you live in the Carolina area you'll get that) was off to one of his best starts and led the NFL in TD's.

He and Steve Smith are a dynamic duo when healthy. I think the guy is an above average QB, not great but better than 60-70% of the QB's in the NFL.

If I had to watch David Carr QB my team for what 3 weeks I'd be kissing the ground ole' Jake walked on.

Never knew SC wasn't in the Carolina area. But his bojangles ads are ridiculous.

While he and Smith are a great duo, there are some defenses that step up and are all over him, so the qb has no idea who to go to, partly because thats all they go to and also because the other receivers need to learn to step up and catch the balls. He's an alright QB, I just don't like him.

Carolina Area= North and South Carolina.

The "you'll get that" was for people in Tennessee who don't get to see the ads. Not just you there monk.

not so much on the drafting of that player.......as much as it is being able to win this year.

word is if they flounder againt around 8-8/7-9 this season they're done. so, while it's not all on that one player, they did draft this year to win now. they can't afford any projects.......

Jake's stats before he went down w/injury last year:
55/86 for a 64% completion rate
208.7 yards passing per game
8 tds/1 int 8:1....that's pretty darn good, and i'd take that all day long.
111.9 qb rating.

if he's healthy, the offense should be ok.

he's been throwing, and the surgery he had is the same surgery that pitchers get when their elbow goes out. recovery time according to what i've heard is much shorter for a qb since not as much is required of the elbow in the throwing motion as there is in a pitcher's.

as stated, the concern is will he have the touch/accuracy back.....

Guess we will see what happens. Hopefully some of the receivers will step up their game. I would like to go to a winning home game this year. :ermm:

Aint that the truth. Steve Smith made be a beast but the little guy can't do everything by himself. Hopefully the pressure is going to be taken off of him since we got Mussan Muhammad back.

Now about the draft. I was happy about some the picks we made. Especially Otah, man were those eagles fans pissed or what! The only thing I complained about was the fact we didn't draft a QB. I worry about Delhomme Sometimes. Before his injury last year he has been a inconsistent. I thought David Carr was going to be our saving grace but we all know that the dude just sucks ass. Grampa Vinny is just too damn old. Matt Moore. Meh I've heard some great things about him, but I haven't seen him play yet.

Also my boy Julius Peppers should rebound from that slump he had last season.

Matt Millen proves you are correct.
 The Detroit Lions: Not applicable to any relevant conversation about the NFL.

As far as the Panthers go, I figured a backup QB would have been a good draft choice. Delhomme, while I wouldn't sing his praises in any way, is decent enough a QB to build a contending team with.

Matt Moore did alright last year, but he didn't get enough playing time, they just need to give the kid a chance. Other than that who do we have this year as far as qbs?

Other than him and Delhomme we have Brett Besanez who came from Northwester about 2 years ago. I believed he was placed on IR for his right wrist. The only game time he has had was back in 06 against the Steelers. He completed 6 out 11 passes for 56 yards with one pick.

Oh, I didn't realize we kept him for this year. Is he back from his injury?
