The "0-9 Rule"

aTm just had, according to the so called experts, the greatest recruiting class of all time. 2022 will be Jimbo's 4th season there and he hasn't done much more than Sumlin did. NIL will change the dynamics of college football going forward, regardless of if Fisher wants to admit the Texas schools apparently have a system that they can use to lure in the elite-ist of the elite.

Hoping for another Jimbo dumbo year... can you imagine the uproar that you won't hear out loud from the big, big, need I say, BIG oil money aTm boosters if he screws up again with a mediocre record that includes a loss to Satan? Cool.

The biggest problem with the program still today is that UT hired a weak, mealy mouthed bean counter (Mike Hamilton) as the Athletic Director and he listened to the lowest common denominator of the fan base in making his decisions regarding firing and hiring coaches. The program has never recovered from that. Some folks would be better off just staying off message boards and sports talk.

Sorry, but Hamilton has been gone a long time. Can't blame him for what's happening now.

Keep in mind, UT beat UGA in '15 & '16. But now they're unbeatable? Because of Hamilton? I don't think so.

Those are our 2 wins against them in the last 12 tries and both were barely achieved, we hadn't beat them good since 09. That's one way to tell you're behind a program, when they blow you out and if and when you beat them it's a nail biter.

Good news! We’re about to go 3-0 vs Florida. They’re trash. Their new amazing coach just had a terrible recruiting cycle.

Uga just lost 100 guys to the draft. I say we win 1, lose 1, and have a tossup over the next three.

Bama is gonna beat us next year. Don’t know after that. Who’s their qb after Young?

not really sure where i'm lacking common sense.

we seem to be the only school taking the NCAA seriously and it's silly and it's hindering our ability to take the next step. but hey at least we're taking the moral high ground.

You seem to be one of those that somehow think the NCAA is irrelevant now. You are sadly mistaken. The NCAA could decide at any second to punish us. Why you think otherwise is baffling. So yeah tell the NCAA off and what if they decided to lay the hammer? You can say they won’t all you want but can you offer the irrefutable evidence that they won’t? No you cannot. That’s why the university is siding with caution.

But hey it’s obvious your intent. I mean you probably think Heupel should be fired if we don’t beat UF this year.

Why in the world would you keep someone instead of firing them because they had 1 win against an average Florida team?

For a while the Vol HC is judged by their record vs those 3.

NIL and flop rule will play a major role.

Not saying it can't or shouldn't happen but history has proven otherwise.

You've probably never heard of the 0-9 rule because I am the creator of it. Even though I feel certain that Heupel will easily pass the 0-9 rule, and I think that we finally have found the long term solution with him, still, the 0-9 rule should apply. Here is the 0-9 rule:

After 3 years, if your combined record against: (in alphabetical order here) Florida, Georgia and Alabama is 0-9 then you have to go. At present Heupel is 0-3. 1-8 you keep your spot. 0-9 over any three year span, you're gone.

There was a day once upon a time that I would have never dreamed that my personal requirements for keeping a head coach would be so low. But, it is what it is. The 0-9 rule should be our minimum requirement at this time.
this will only work if after 2 years the 0-6 coach is signed to a 4 year extension with a major buy-out

Wow. The Vol mentality has been beaten down worse than I thought. A & M beat Alabama this year. That big dummy Pruitt had Alabama beat on their field until that numb nuts QB of ours decided he wanted to score instead of running the call he was told to.

We were cheated out of two games this year. Just a fact. What I saw out on the field this year was a team, playing for each other, with EVERYTHING they had. There is no doubt in my mind that Heupel will do far better than the 0-9 rule I invented.

I don't disagree with the OP, gotta find a way to win those 3 if you want to compete at the top. However keep in mind Tennessee got 3 wins that are not gimme in 2022. SC got better as the season progressed, Mizzou has shown potential under drink. And as much as this hurts, reality is UK has better players that UT right now. Heupel could lose 2/3 of those next year. However he could beat Pitt and Florida.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I think UT wins bama or uga this year. They have more talent but UT has a precision offense. With 1 more season experience with heup, I could see Tennessee coming out on top of a 42-38 type game.

That rule was before Bama and Georgia became elite. Both of those teams are on a different level and their recruiting has been insane.

To put the talent difference in perspective we could compare top 100 players signed this year:

Bama-15/100
Georgia-11/100
UT-0/100

So they both brought in double digits of the highest ranked recruits in the country. We landed 0.

I've said it before (for example) if you give the top 3 NFL teams out of the 32 teams 10 1st round picks. The other 29 teams get the leftovers. Guess what 2 of the same 3 NFL teams would be playing in the Superbowl every year. It's like your local AAU team that gets all the best players in the region and has to Travel everywhere to play competition close to the bought teams level, they embarrass the local yokels. It's the world we live in the players have a right to get their money. It may just become so boring that the money will slow down but alas the ones that will be losing money will make mandates rules to help them keep the money rolling in.

I keep seeing people saying that we should beat floriDUHHH this coming season.

Where is that coming from?

Did the gaturds instantly flush all their talent down the toilet or what?

They imploded last season and we still don't know why but all their talented players are mostly still there except those that graduated.

I know they have a new coaching staff but they must have something going for them of they wouldn't be coaching there.

I also think we should have a decent chance this coming season at getting a WIN but I'm not as confident as many on here seem to be and I'm always a positive minded guy.

I'm really wondering where all this confidence is coming from.

VFL...GBO!!!

Take over a dumpster fire and you have three years to beat three teams, one is the current nat’l champion and another was in the championship and has won it most other years. The third was in the SEC championship the year before.

Not a dumb rule at all.

Comparing UT to UGA or Alabama right now is, well, ridiculous. Try competing with them for 4 full quarters, then worry about beating them.
