That's racist!

The context is the post you responded to. Stefan Molyneaux.

Some producers actually want to make art too. It's like you guys have no idea how Hollywood works. Not everything is about making money. The bosses love to pay for prestige over $. You ever heard "one for us and one for them?" Probably not, but if you never heard that then I am right and you know next to nothing about the dynamics movie industry. And it's not a foregone conclusion that it hurts the box office. If the movie is great, you might have two woke people seeing it twice for every crybaby who stays home.

You think you're saying sonething by "enough stinkers in a row and...."

That's regardless of the politics at play.

Universal does not really care about "art". They want to recoup their $250M+ budget and monetize the hell out of it and make $$$ for their executives/shareholders....

The question is whether all of this free publicity will help or hurt. Ultimately, that will be dependent on the quality of the film. A decent film, as Disney has seen recently, is not enough once it gets in the cultural crosshairs...

IDK if Universal directly cares about art but it does care about prestige, which is a different angle on the same thing. Brand matters, and Universal's brand isn't just "we make the most money," it's trying to be "we make great movies with great directors." They just gave Spielberg $45m + marketing to make something that everybody recognized as "one for him," The Fablemans. They also paid $30m + marketing for Tar, just so they could try to win some Oscars. There was almost no chance these made $, and they didn't.

They hope this movie can be big. They want it to make money. They want it to be prestige. It might fail. It might not. But it's a bet on the artist. And if it fails, they'd probably bet on Nolan again.

BTW, as just a big fan of movies, my concern with this one, as it is with all epics, is how will the pacing go? 2 hrs and 52 minutes? If it's not awesome, I don't want to see it at all. That is such a long f-ing movie. I still haven't seen Gladiator II for this reason, and it's only 2' 28". If everybody were saying it's awesome, I would have seen it by now. I'll wait to hear on The Odyssey. I'm certainly not going to be there on opening night.

Gladiator ll was a money grab not worth sleeping through.

What’s the narrative going to be when white actors are cast to play Jackie Brown, Shaft, and Coming to America?

April O'Neill was black/mixed race in the original comics. I am a huge TMNT fan. IDK why they made her a red-headed white. If they did it for racist reasons, that's really disappointing. They probably just did it for audience appeal.

Who cares? Minority groups that want representation care. I care enough to say representation matters. I don't care enough to become an outrage machine, because I can't fault them for trying to appeal to the largest audience. It's pretty lame, and it's 1,000x lamer when you are the richest man in the world, in a country that's still run largely by white men, and white is still the majority, and you are this threatened by this nothing burger. What could it mean?

This stuff has been happening forever, Jesus in Passion of the Christ is a Finnish white guy

Imagine how much Elon would be crying if the trope were that the white guy always dies first in horrors.

They are foreshadowing a real world replacement of white men! They are so brazen they put it right in front of our faces.

Eh, certainly far from unattractive. But the most beautiful? That may be a stretch. She's got what I would call a natural beauty but lacks the striking/stunning features of beauties of I've seen over the past.
She is no Karlyn Pickens, that’s for sure.

(And this is coming from a guy whose usual answer is:

Melissa McCarthy, Sandra bullock, gweneth paltrow, Cynthia Erivo and a few more on the year by year list aren’t attractive to me in the least. Even Julia Roberts for me. Pink, no thanks I don’t prefer a woman who looks like a fullback. Everybody has their own taste and shouldn’t be called racist due to not agreeing with someone else’s taste.

Melissa McCarthy & Chrissy Teigen both made the cover of People’s most beautiful.

They both reside in the same category - butt ass ugly.

I have eyes, and can understand the attraction for Sweeney & Lupita, even if I don’t dig em.

The fascination some have/had for Teigen baffles me, though. Face like a freakin jack-o-lantern…
Ha. And I can understand a little if people are attracted to Lupita but in too many photos she reminds me of Chris Peoples who I played ball against in HS. He scored 50 on us before there was a 3 pt line so any resemblance of him is a turnoff.

I have no idea who that is. But while Lupita isn’t my cup of tea, she in no way resembles a man imo.

He’s used to calling people zionists, racists, homophobic, Nazis, gays or MAGA. Just for disagreeing with an opinion. It’s their go-to thing to do
