Seems solid and well grounded. Genuine, too. Can't help but pull for him. Really hoping for a special season for this kid in light of all that's happened to him over the past few months.

Does anyone believe that we are in a worse situation this season compared to 2021?
Also, why is everyone discounting Merk? He's been in the system one year (or more, if he was EE). Hooker and Milton were in the system less than one year in 2021. I don't know how the season will end, but I am not as pessimistic as some. Down side, other SEC teams hadn't faced our system in 2021. Now they've had four season to prepare. We will see. Go Vols!

Think I know the answer, but I'm not sure. How many SEC offers did Pavia have? Not saying he's gonna be the next Pavia, but coaches miss on unrated/low rate guys just like they do with 5 star types.

0 out of HS, not sure about the transfer portal offers. But he was absolutely terrible against us, so I'm not sure that really helps the argument.

I like him too, but he hasn't won the starting job yet.

That said, I predict he will and that he will have a stellar season in CJH's offense. All those deep balls the JM and NI missed are about to become actualized.

Before Nico bailed I stated that UCLA had 8 QBs but really only had one. I was talking about Joey Aguilar. I thought with the offense that they have their now under Sunseri that Aguilar was going to shine in LA.

It so crazy how he is now playing for Tennessee.

He has a winner’s attitude. Also seems to know his limitations and knows games won’t be all rainbows and unicorns. One of the most important things he said was to try to do more good things than bad. Important words in any competition. If you get 11 (15 in rugby) guys on the field and each one does more good than bad than their opposing player, you’re going to walk off the field the victor.

We shouldn’t have any worries about our QB room.

I think the same thing. He seems like a really likeable kid. I love the fact that's he's 24 too. He's been through it all and if he's able to pick up the playbook we may shock some folks.

I think we go 9-3 as well but I don't rule out 10-2 with this schedule. I really like our chances against UGA. Catching them early may work in our favor. They are talented and deep but they are replacing a ton on that Defense. We are talented enough to hang with them and I expect Neyland to be Rocking. May be one of the loudest crowds in CFB history. I'm expecting 2016 Oklahoma level insanity. All the ingredients for an upset is there.

He always struck me as timid. Nothing wrong with that but you don't want that trait in a QB

You must've missed where I predict he will be one of the top QBs in the SEC, and the Vols will beat UGA at home this season in the JD Bickell thread.

I am not scared to make a bold prediction like most of the so-called 'experts' who never go outside the lines.

Appears to have some good personality. We’ll see how he plays … and if he earns the starting job.

Hate that the situation arose with Nico, but truthfully I’m glad that guy and his family baggage are gone. Despite the subsequent attempts to reshape the narrative thru the media, Nico and his dad (maybe mostly his dad) wanted to dictate things to the program. After what was essentially a game-manager performance at best last season, that attempt was especially lame. But narcissism has become a virtue in today’s society. Oh well …

Here’s to Joey - or Jake - or Mac - having a great year at QB1 for the Vols!
