Thanks Butch

You know its funny. During the Dooley years we would watch another team go and bash their coach for losing a close game they could've won and all we said was how stupid they were, how they should be grateful that they can even compete and firing their coach could end up turning them into us with Dooley.
Now after we get ONLY 2 top 5 classes, some Dooley seniors(rs juniors and rs seniors), and a rushed CBJ/Dooley class and were suppose to be competing for a playoff spot. Most people on here crying are the same people that spent all summer saying how we should be careful with the hype and need to be realistic. Now that reality has hit home they want to cry about how we should be living up to the hype.

Its clear as day we have the talent, but we don't have enough of it and theres just some fans that no matter how they say it, they just want CBJ fired cause they still think Gruden will come save us(remember he just said this summer were the only college he would coach and Peyton said he'd be a QB coach so the more we can bash CBJ the quicker we can fire him and go get our dream team of coaches).

Most people considered this game a loss, and now that it is we still can easily win the East. The problem is people take winning the East to winning the SEC and that then gets us a playoff spot and we could win that too, 2015 NC!!!!!! Sorry but the East was the best it was gonna get this year and anyone expecting more was just dreaming. 4 Years ago we would've been thrilled just to go into this game and not expect to get slaughtered. Now that CBJ has got us to that point thas no longer good enough. And thats the point, CBJ could win 10 NC titles and people here would cry about the ones he didn't win and say he needs to be fired because he didn't win a title every year he was here.

We had a 14 point lead going into the 4th quarter. It has nothing to do with the East or the rest of the season. There is no excuse to lose that game last night. There is just no excuse.

Clearly the OP is delusional and doesn't understand all that went along in how we gave the game away last night.

It's okay OP, it has been a long decade of being crummy that has you blinded.

You are forgiven.

You know my brother unfortunely is a huge SC fan. Talking to him last year about OBC vs CBJ he did make one good point. That CBJ gives bs coach answers, never takes blame. OBC speaks his mind which isn't always the best, and that he will take blame.

I painfully have to say that he was right. As mad as I was(and still am) I think CBJ would have made me feel alittle better if he would have taken alittle bit of the blame. I know technically he did by saying we this, we that, but that's the political way of answering without individualizing it. He's failing our guys, not just last night. People can be made all they want about us bashing our coach, but patterns can't be over looked. Tired of playing not to lose, tired of blaming it on youth when that youth proved they could perform.

It stings cause I shouldn't feel like we are going to lose when the team gets out in a lead early on. I just tend to believe that we will lose when we've repeatedly seen the same event unfold on numerous occasions.

I've been venting really hard since last night, but I want all to understand I still want CBJ to succeed ultimately. He's done great things for us. I don't want to lose his great recruiting ability, his heart for our program and tradition. Starting over scares the hell out of me! Again don't feel like that's the answer as of yet. But I don't think anyone can argue that patterns don't typically change. It's the same as a woman going back to an abusive husband, it's her fault at some point for continuing to think he will change and keep putting herself back in the situation. Same as if you keep a cheating spouse around believing it'll be different the next time. So it hurts me to say that I'm putting my self in the situation by praying things change when all signs point to it not. I do this out of fear of what the other options are, so I'm stuck in it out of my love for the VOLs.

I get that but it was clear the tide had turned well before that. We can blame Debord but the D wasn't stopping anything and when OU had a play break down their WRs found openings, ours stood by the DB(to block if Dobbs ran I guess).
The truth is we don't have any true leadership because our most skilled players are underclassmen and our upperclassmen have a deeply ingrained losing mentality.

Yes the coaches need to find some leaders and hold them accountable so they will hold the team accountable. But if you've ever played a sport when momentum swings against you and the coach is screaming at you it doesn't really help, thats where a teammate, translating the coaches anger into motivation to his teammates comes in handy.

I will give you that Debord made some dumb adjustments at half. Like going pass heavy when you're up 2 scores and the run game has been you're backbone so far. But again if the WRs don't just stand and stare at Dobbs when he was scrambling for his life that would help. But thats also something an older, leader WR should be teaching these kids and we just don't have the leaders.

Our QB is an upperclassman.

I guess your bro enjoyed the OBC's post game interview for SCar and that loss to KY last night

That is where you are wrong. If you fill that way, start rooting for Vandy.

Whatever, like I said before, losing a game by 50 or 1 it doesn't matter it goes down as a L. And why would you say go cheer for Vandy? Are u serious? Just because I don't like the way we lost your going to say something like that. Your the one who needs to go cheer for Vandy since losing don't bother you. Its fans like you that criticize other fans because they don't like how a loss went. This is a TN football dissuasion board, and if you can't handle it without throwing out grade school accusations to others, don't get on here!

Like Florida last year, we lose a hard fought close over-hyped game at home. And like last year the venomous cannibalism begins. Objectively, we came into the season expecting 8-9 wins if we stayed healthy. Three great recruiting classes following the Dooley years suggests 2016 to be the year that we should reasonably contend. Like last year expectations were not managed well (allowing talk of 10 wins and projections of winning the SEC East) and crushing disappointment ensues after losing a game pretty much as the handicappers expected. Last night and today features the blame game and recriminations. I have followed Tennessee football for over 40 years and our fan base is loyal but fickle. We are passionate but quick to point fingers. The bottom line is we are markedly better than last year and will have a good year. The coaches did make adjustments. Some players simply did not execute well in the second half. The weak side of the offensive line was not effective. Dobbs was inaccurate. There were notable drops. Jumper is a good young linebacker who struggled in coverage and his penalties unfortunately were the turning points in momentum. We had to overcome the loss of Maggitt and injuries to Cam and TK. Not having O'Brien was a factor. Barnett and Reeves-Mabin had monster games, but they were having to compensate for others not available. I share the disappointment and frustration of many here, but it is ridiculous to call for the heads of the coaching staff for a close loss to a ranked team. Having watched the Johnny Majors roller coaster ride of the late 70s and early 80s, I am reminded of the painful process of rebuilding and am reminded of when we blew a huge early lead against Auburn and the criticism that followed. Let's not poison the well just yet.

Delusional? Blind?
Since 1999, no program has won more games than Oklahoma. How many NC's has Stoops won in that 16 years? Oh yes, that's right, one! And that came in 2000. So, he has now coached 14 straight years without a title.
Should OU fire Stoops after last year's 8-4 campaign?
Why don't you have a few more drinks and see how the next ten games go. Just keep looking at the football, since you clearly don't know too much about the Xs and Os.

A reasonable poster. May your tribe increase on Volnation.

Thanks for bringing relevant football back to Knoxville! As fans, that is all we can really ask. In life, there are always tough defeats, however, relevant football gives you:
1. Giving your all (maximum effort)
2. Competing at the highest level (Top 25)
3. Making the other team earn it (4 quarters)
4. Great leadership (not blaming individuals)
5. Learning from mistakes (pass defense vs. BG)
While defeats are tough, I woke up this morning with a pride for Tennessee football that I haven't felt in years. Relevant football doesn't mean no losses, there will always be more in the future, but props to the coaching staff and Team 119 for making this the first relevant loss since the Fulmer era. I can't wait to watch more!

Celebrity worship.

That was a horrible way to lose a game. We were in control till the half and then came out as a bust. Poor coaching, poor execution, and poor tackling all contributed to the result, a loss. Is Butch the man for the job? Still wait and see. If we run the table thenost would say yes. Most if Volnation thinks OU should have been an easy win, like the 1st half went, but as the maxim says carry the fight for 60 minutes that got us into OT...... Time to update that to "The final whistle". WC next week proves nothing, Florida the week after, as bad as they are still my not prove anything, I still want to win it, even if Florida does truly suck. No loss helps the program at this point.....not for learning not for anything. One can only hope the players and coaches will bounce back, show some heart, continue to play hard. The coaching staff need to get real with our players about individual matchups, if you can't block a guy, ask for help, if you can't cover a guy then ask for help. We need so wrinkles on each side I the ball, to implement at the half, to counter the adjustments that are gonna be made by the other team.
GO VOLS! RUN the TABLE!

So Tennessee is similar to which other program now days?
Notre Dame - every year, this is the year they get back
USC WEST - sames as above
Texas - endless downward spiral after prominent coach is ousted. Fall from grace

Considering all of those teams played for or won a national championship in the last 10 years I'd say tennessee is similar to none of the above.

Amen. I hate it when people pull that "holier than thou" stuff on here. The dude sounds a lot like ReaderVol, always calling people out for being unsatisfied with the results we are getting.
