...

Butch SHOWED RESULTS last night. And it's more proof that he's in over his head.

And you and I seem to disagree on exactly how many games we should play before we reach for the pitchforks. I can live with that. Like I said above, yard work to do

You're still using rationalization to make things worse. I don't get that. And again only win loss matters right? Didn't Arky and Tn finish with the same record? I honestly don't remember the exact records but I thought they were the same.

I've got yard work to do. I'll leave you to your meltdown. Enjoy

I'm not trying to make anything worse. We just lost to a mediocre team with the largest 4th quarter lead ever to be given up in Neyland Stadium. I couldn't possibly rationalize that to be any worse. Who cares what Arkansas is doing? If Arkansas is our measuring stick, please go ahead and shut down the whole damn athletic department.

Great post! You can't ask for much more from a team than this. Ignore the negative folks; they aren't mature enough to separate emotion from reality. Most of them are pissed that they convinced themselves that we would win against any odds or experts' opinions, and then we didn't.

Not me.

I ordered my tickets to the Moral Victory Bowl immediately after the game.

As has been pointed out more than a few times, it's not that we lost, but how we lost.

We lost by getting a 17 point lead in the first half, without fully exploiting opportunities to make that lead larger. No, I'm not talking about going for three points on fourth down. Early in the game, that's the right thing to do. Without those three points, team would not even have made the cut for overtime. Guys had three downs to get six.

Getting a 17 point lead on Oklahoma means Vols were doing a lot of things well. The Vols were beating a good team. But they did not score enough points when they were rolling and Okie was offering opportunities... to hold when that good team made its second half push. Tennessee did not hold. There were just too many three and outs.

It was an exciting game, against a worthy opponent. But it was also a depressing game. We all know what happened. Our team could have won a great victory, but they let it slip away. I hate it like the last two Florida games. Almost everybody is disgusted and mad as hell. SEC schedule starts in a few weeks. Time for every coach and player to clear their minds and take a gut check. Are they going to beat ranked teams this year? This is no fooling around. It's "Life in Wartime."

Trust in Butch Jones.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Vol nation, your team was better than Oklahoma's. More talented. Trust in Butch Jones.

I dont think anyone here doubts he can field the talent. Even as much or more (as you stated) than OU.

The trust stops there however. As did our chance to win.

Thanks for bringing relevant football back to Knoxville! As fans, that is all we can really ask. In life, there are always tough defeats, however, relevant football gives you:
1. Giving your all (maximum effort)
2. Competing at the highest level (Top 25)
3. Making the other team earn it (4 quarters)
4. Great leadership (not blaming individuals)
5. Learning from mistakes (pass defense vs. BG)
While defeats are tough, I woke up this morning with a pride for Tennessee football that I haven't felt in years. Relevant football doesn't mean no losses, there will always be more in the future, but props to the coaching staff and Team 119 for making this the first relevant loss since the Fulmer era. I can't wait to watch more!

You have to be kidding! Relevant football?

If the pattern of conservative play does not concern you then you're blind. And it is becoming a pattern. I hate it.

Not getting run off the field in the first quarter because we don't have the talent to match up to the ranked opponent we are playing.

That has happened quite a bit over the last few years because the cupboards were bare.

While we will lose a couple more this year at least thus far I don't see us getting run off the field anymore.

Lossing by 50 or by 1, a loss is a loss.

Like Florida last year, we lose a hard fought close over-hyped game at home. And like last year the venomous cannibalism begins. Objectively, we came into the season expecting 8-9 wins if we stayed healthy. Three great recruiting classes following the Dooley years suggests 2016 to be the year that we should reasonably contend. Like last year expectations were not managed well (allowing talk of 10 wins and projections of winning the SEC East) and crushing disappointment ensues after losing a game pretty much as the handicappers expected. Last night and today features the blame game and recriminations. I have followed Tennessee football for over 40 years and our fan base is loyal but fickle. We are passionate but quick to point fingers. The bottom line is we are markedly better than last year and will have a good year. The coaches did make adjustments. Some players simply did not execute well in the second half. The weak side of the offensive line was not effective. Dobbs was inaccurate. There were notable drops. Jumper is a good young linebacker who struggled in coverage and his penalties unfortunately were the turning points in momentum. We had to overcome the loss of Maggitt and injuries to Cam and TK. Not having O'Brien was a factor. Barnett and Reeves-Mabin had monster games, but they were having to compensate for others not available. I share the disappointment and frustration of many here, but it is ridiculous to call for the heads of the coaching staff for a close loss to a ranked team. Having watched the Johnny Majors roller coaster ride of the late 70s and early 80s, I am reminded of the painful process of rebuilding and am reminded of when we blew a huge early lead against Auburn and the criticism that followed. Let's not poison the well just yet.

Moral "victories" don't count anymore. The football team is not much, if any, better than in the past Eight seasons. All we have heard for almost a decade are EXCUSES.

Never ceases to amaze how many so-called fans are hoping for CBJ to fail

I have not read one post from someone suggesting they WANT CBJ to fail. But, many believe that he will. Last night just provided more reason for that believe. Thus, all the harping.

IMO there is a large group of CBJ critics that are more interested in being able to say "I told you so" than just taking a wait and see approach.

There are 10 games left - a lot of football left to be played.

1. Typical post modern, bleeding heart garbage.
2. Probably not after the loss
3. Going three and out the whole second half helped OU a lot too.
4. Disagree. Leaders are accountable and adapt.
5. I laughed out loud! same guy from VU 13 and UF 14.

I woke up this morning the same way I went to bed. Ticked off.

I could have swore we had three first downs on the opening drive of the third quarter and two more in the opening drive of the fourth quarter, but maybe you're right about the 3 and outs the entire second half.
Leaders are accountable and do adapt. Being ticked off is fine. It's what you do with it that matters. Looks like most of the people who responded in here have resulted to rash decisions, name calling, and drinking.:eek:lol:

You know its funny. During the Dooley years we would watch another team go and bash their coach for losing a close game they could've won and all we said was how stupid they were, how they should be grateful that they can even compete and firing their coach could end up turning them into us with Dooley.
Now after we get ONLY 2 top 5 classes, some Dooley seniors(rs juniors and rs seniors), and a rushed CBJ/Dooley class and were suppose to be competing for a playoff spot. Most people on here crying are the same people that spent all summer saying how we should be careful with the hype and need to be realistic. Now that reality has hit home they want to cry about how we should be living up to the hype.

Its clear as day we have the talent, but we don't have enough of it and theres just some fans that no matter how they say it, they just want CBJ fired cause they still think Gruden will come save us(remember he just said this summer were the only college he would coach and Peyton said he'd be a QB coach so the more we can bash CBJ the quicker we can fire him and go get our dream team of coaches).

Most people considered this game a loss, and now that it is we still can easily win the East. The problem is people take winning the East to winning the SEC and that then gets us a playoff spot and we could win that too, 2015 NC!!!!!! Sorry but the East was the best it was gonna get this year and anyone expecting more was just dreaming. 4 Years ago we would've been thrilled just to go into this game and not expect to get slaughtered. Now that CBJ has got us to that point thas no longer good enough. And thats the point, CBJ could win 10 NC titles and people here would cry about the ones he didn't win and say he needs to be fired because he didn't win a title every year he was here.
