Just made it back to Wisconsin from the game and I wanted to thank the Georgia fans for their hospitality and sportsmanship.

I've been to games at Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon, Ole Miss and Florida. I've never been worried about a bad road experience until this game. I had a horrible experience in Neyland about 10 years back (sitting in the middle of the GA section) and was terrified of being in their stadium (not in UT designated section).

They were great fans. Passionate, loud, great environment. Everyone from the ushers, concessions, fans were respectful and wishing us a good game. After the game they shook our hands and congratulated us. I was shocked.

Thank you GA fans for a great experience. :hi: I hope you whip the crap out of Florida!

While I am not always the friendliest after a tough loss, I would never take it out on another fan. it is great to know that most people understand it's a game. Sportsmanship is the exception these days.

At least I like one thing about Georgia lol

I'm glad you had a great section. My friends and I got cussed out by an old lady. She told us we would be lucky to get out of Athens alive. UGA fans are terrible. They really hate UT. I don't think we hate them like they hate us.

Seconded. There was one drunk guy right next to us that was the most obnoxious person I've ever experienced at a game, but he actually liked us and seemed to despise Georgia. Badmouthed his own team so bad that the GA fans in front of him cussed him out( to no avail, he ran his mouth the ENTIRE game about any and every GA coaching decision) but whatever. My biggest problem was controlling my girlfriend's temper.

On my other side was a DAWG that talked football with me all game and shook all of our hands and congratulated us on the victory when he left after Foreman's INT. Hilarious looking back that they actually came back and then lost again in the 2 minutes of gametime after he left. I kept any celebration in check until the last play since we were by ourselves and it wouldn't have helped anyway. But when he came down with that catch we went crazy and not one fan said anything to us.

Georgia fans spoke to us as we walked outside the stadium and jokingly said things like "we hate you guys but that was one hell of a game." I hope Vol fans in general are as respectful as I saw from the DAWG fans last night.

I have seen stuff like this on here but me and my group just never experienced it. I actually heard stories of DAWGS standing up for groups of Vols at the bars Friday night. I understand my experience is a small sample size though.

I had a similar great experience. As per every stadium I've ever attended, including our own, there were isolated cases of idiocy. But the vast majority of the folks were extremely nice and welcoming, and several congratulated Tennessee fans on the win. Athens did not disappoint- beautiful stadium and great college football atmosphere. Winning in miraculous fashion was the icing on the cake of a wonderful and memorable day!

I remember when we enjoyed "moral victories" as well. Georgia is now what we were a few years ago. Reading their forums after the game I saw a lot of pepole who were pretty happy considering they gave up a hail mary and lost on the final play. It reminds me of us when we would keep it close against the "better" teams on our schedule just a few years ago. Now it's nice for us to be on the delivering end of the moral victories while we get the win that goes in the record books.

I love Athens, been there a lot. It's much more enjoyable when it's not gameday vs Tennessee though. I've encountered the worst of the worst down there.

Glad you guys meet the adults lol.

I'm glad you got to sit next to some decent GA fans. The ones I sit with were to busy barking in my face, cussing me, telling me to suck it, pushing me, kept putting their hands in my face, grabbing my shirt, and talking so much crap about Tennessee. Luckily, it doesn't bother me and when we ripped their hearts out I did not have to say a single word. Just smiled and waved. Oh and sung Rocky Top at the top of my lungs.

I had a guy sitting in front of my in the stadium that I thought was gonna hit me. His buddy had to pull him back. In the excitement of the moment, I mistakenly called out that GA was offsides on offense when it was actually illegal procedure since the lineman moved but this fan turned to me and said that there is no such thing as offsides on the offense. I said, "so you don't think a lineman or receiver can't be called offsides if the line up in front of the ball?"

He got in my face and said, "Look it up". So I did later and found that he was wrong. This guy also left with 10 seconds left to go in the game thinking that they had won.

At my time at UT, Georgia fans were tied for the most hostile along with Miami's. I've never met so many people looking for a fight. I've never had issues with any other fanbase.

Sounds like people have varying experiences, but probably consistent with football fans anywhere. I've sat around some crazy TN fans before.

As for those mentioning Wisconsin, I love it here. Took a teaching job here at UW after I finished my Ph.D. at UT. I must say i've come to love cheese curds.. and went to my first Packer's game.

UW is having a heck of a season as well. Justin Wilcox as DC is proving a huge asset to the team. I'm hoping we can knock off Ohio State in 2 weeks here at home.

On my trips to various schools of the SEC including Georgia, Auburn, Ole Miss, Alabama, Kentucky, South Carolina, Vandy, and Miss State, I have found being in the proximity of actual college students greatly increases the level of obnoxiousness you will encounter. I have encountered good and bad fans at everyone of the venues mentioned above but have never been close to any real fight. There have been a couple of occasions where it had to be made clear that I would not be a victim of their abuse all day. But, those always ended well too.

How you respond to the first comment goes a long way in how the rest of the conversation goes. In other words, don't be obnoxious in their house and you will be fine. I always root for my team and sing Rocky Top when played but try not to direct my comments to any one individual.

I had two people get in my face and yell "F*** Tennessee!" and one lovely Georgia fan decided to bump me with his car while I was legally crossing a side street. This was completely unsolicited too. I'm not one to talk smack. There are some nasty people in Athens.
