thanks for all the replies guys and gals, i had a great time as you know. im working on putting together a return trip next year and renting an SUV for a day so me and my friends can have a canadian themed tailgate. I'm thinking maple smoked pork products, Canadian beer, etc.

Sooo just thought I'd let everyone know I am planning a return trip to my new home in the USA, Tennessee. Me and the same group (with one traded out for another) are heading back in October to enjoy a weekend in Nashville and a Saturday in beautiful Knoxvile! Were planning to host a Canadian themed tailgate... as it comes closer to October I'll post details and such.

I can't wait to come back... I have a feeling this will become an annual trip for me :D

When this team returns to it's winning tradition (and I honestly think it starts this fall), what you experienced will seem muted in comparison. I remember my first time to the Hill, when Heath Shuler was just a freshman. It was like there was an charge of electricity in the air.

I don't know, from a physics standpoint, what causes that, but you could definitely feel it.

Sorry to bump an old friend but wanted to wish my friends thru out Tennesee and Knoxville good luck in this upcoming season.

On a flight home from Vegas last night back to Calgary I watched some videos I took of the game against Alabama from when I visited and was home sick for a place I've visited once. I can't wait to make a return visit to the Smoky Mountains and see some Tennessee football again soon :)

Haha ya it's funny when i went to Tennessee I was a Flames fan but since I've been home the Jets came back. I'm all about the Jets again. Speaking of which I need to update my avatar to show the new Jets logo.

I followed the Jets last fall instead of the Flames... saw them in New York 3 times, Chicago, Philly, Ottawa. I saw Wisconsin vs Indiana actually, and, USC vs Arizona. USC's stadium atmosphere sucked and the place was a dump. Camp Randall was amazing and it reminded me of Neyland as far as the fan passion goes. The jump around was truly spectacular. I was happy to check that off my sporting bucket list.

The pre game stuff was almost as good as the game itself. The fans were so friendly and offered up stuff from their grills and a good story about the Vols. The campus is located on a hill (the whole area around UT in Knoxville is hilly and beautiful) so the stadium didn't reveal herself to me until I was almost there. It was beautiful, a tremendous stadium with character and class. Of course you guys know this already, but it was a dramatic introduction to the old girl for me.

The inside of the stadium is really something else when it's filled up. The extra Bama fans added some electricity to the air but I imagine that in years past when the Vol's won more games it was even better.

The half time show was remarkable. The "Million dollar band" from Bama was a lot of fun, and the circle drill done by the Pride of the Southland was stunning to observe.

The fans singing along to Rockytop is my second favourite sports memory of my life, only 2nd to watching the Flames beat the Sharks for the Western conference final. I'm not too proud to admit that when the fans sang along to Rocky top during the circle drill I got a little overwhelmed and a tad glossy eyed from joy. It was a football experience I will never forget no matter how long I live, and I was so happy to be a part of it at least once.

Putting aside the pageantry of college ball, the game itself got off to a glorious start and I was starting to think upset after Poole ripped a long one in front of me for 6. We all know how the game went, so I won't rehash that.

While I was glad to get home today and be back to my hockey ways, I do have this to say to some of the naysayers and people who are down on Tennessee football. Remind yourself how lucky you are that you don't have to travel across the continent to be a part of the greatest football atmosphere in the world. You are part of a living and breathing football tradition I would be honored to be a part of, as would any football fan. It's easy to be negative and cynical; but that accomplishes nothing. Instead focus on the good times and if you're ever in doubt about the Vol's and being part of Vol nation just remind yourself that you're part of something truly special.

Thanks Knoxville, and thanks Tennessee. It was a special trip.

White Out.....hope you come again soon. Try and keep up with "our" Vols....you can join the family anytime. And, thanks for the reminder of what we still have that some will never have or have been robbed of (Brooklyn Dodgers, NY (baseball) Giants, etc.). Puts the whiny "reality" posters in the proper perspective-as twelve-year-olds that dropped their ice cream cones.

Y'all come back now, y'hear?

I'm one of the OLD guys here who has been absolutely dyed in the wool orange for over 60 years...I remember the 1951 national championship and in all these years of feeling such pride in the Vols and being a season ticket holder for decades, I have never felt such emotions as I did when reading this account...You made all of us who love the Vols regardless of records mighty proud and grateful to be a small part of the greatest football program on earth...Eyes are still a little wet...Thanks so much...
