First off, I am plumb tickled to figure out how to originate a thread. Prior to this, I was only able to respond to people who were responding to people.
I was turned on to this site by a friend who pointed out that a newspaper column I wrote in 1996 was still getting some traction. That would be the "What It Feels Like to be a Vol." I never prayed for that, but it felt so good to see somebody still reading something I wrote 30 years ago that it felt like an "answered prayer."
Now for the other kind. I do think I might have semi-prayed for something else when I said, "oh Dear Lord, please don't let us lose our star quarterback!" That, of course, was in reference to Nico Immamammlamma (I am no longer going to any trouble to try to spell it right -- that's California's problem now.) My semi-prayer, as we all know, was not answered. He went, we got Joey Aguilar.
Thank you, God.
I don't care what the final tally of wins and losses turns out to be, we traded up. He just seems like a great guy and one I like seeing wearing orange. He is also from California, so I guess there is still some hope for that place, too.
I also spent a good part of my life as a cartoonist, so here is my Nico tribute, drawn shortly after the season opener. I'll also include my best Vol toon ever and the one I did for the Mississippi State game, which I posted as a response to a post. Don't know if anybody saw it then, not sure anybody will see it now. I am old and don't understand much of what I do on teh computer. Giving a man my age technology is like letting your monkey play with a loaded pistol. (BTW, I am still writing, drawing and posting old That's Jake cartoons at jakevest.substack.com. Price is right. Subscription is free.)

Glad you're here.
When you're attaching pictures, you will see an "insert" option for the image. If you engage that option, you can choose "thumbnail" or "full image". It will make your cartoons easier to see.

Not to put too fine of a point on your post, but your prayer was not unanswered, it was just answered. In the negative. On a broader scale I can be thankful that the Lord has said no to me for my good on many occasions. I join you in gratitude that my disappointment in losing a starting quarterback has been replaced by gratitude for a young man that seems to be a much better fit.

Very GLAD to have you. It’s good to have another OLD guy in the room! I ā€œreadā€ here quite often but rarely post anything / I am not very interesting I suppose. And I agree, we traded UP from Nico to Joey. I can only imagine what the UCLA fans are wondering, scratching their heads and living with the reality that what they had was better than what they ended up with. Personally, I think between the two QBs it’s more to do with their attitude than talent.
