Do you play any sport-based text sims?

I own a number of them. Front Office Football, The College Years, Bowl Bound College Football, Total College Basketball, and Football Manager (soccer).

I also play at hattrick.org, another soccer game.

I'm part of IHOF (International House of Football - A FOF League) as the Knoxville Rebels (Volunteers were already taken by a San Antonio team). It's a MP game running off of Front Office Football 2007.

I'm also the Vols in two separate BBCF leagues, BB-BBCF and FOFC-BBCF.

I know I have a ton of fun with these games, I was just wondering if anyone else in VN is involved in these type of games.

I play Eastside Hockey Manager 2007, Out Of The Park Baseball 2008, and I haven't played Bowl Bound in a long time but I have that too.

I dabbled in WIS, but it's a bit expensive. It also flows very quickly during the season and I hate to say it, almost drags out too long during the recruiting "season". I know in reality it's shorter than the actual season is, but it's still awkward.

For all the rush to go through the regular season, the recruiting season seemed so slow and choppy.

I enjoyed the personalization of emails and things like that, but not enough to renew it more than once.

As for OOTP, I can't believe I forgot about that. I just haven't played it in a couple of months.

OK, so I am a console guy, so let me just be blunt and say it..... What the hell do you do during these "text sim sports" games. I guess I am just ignorant on this.

It's more about the management aspects of the game. If I could combine NHL08 and EHM07 I would never buy another video game in my life.

So is it like you are the coach or the owner? I guess I don't get it, but then again I do not have to, sounds ok if that is your thing

I used to play some of the card based sports game. There was a basketball one that was great. You could even order additional older teams to match up with current ones.

Cant you just do that in dynast mode or franchise mode?

Sure, you can on the console version, though I've found the text sim games are able to focus more on the managerial aspects than a console game.

Contract negotiations, depth charts, training, playing time, having depth, injuries, recruiting (especially in a multiplayer college football game). I've found all of these to be much more intensive in a text sim than a regular console game.

I don't play much on the consoles nowadays. Blowing away the computer in the dynasty mode every game gets...boring. At least to me.

Not being able to control the players by pressing buttons makes me more reliant on putting a good team together that can win without the benefit of me hitting the A, X, or whatever button it is.

Playing in a multiplayer league is even more challenging.

Have you played WIS since they launched Hardball Dynasty? It's a head and shoulders about the other games. I played Gridiron Dynasty alot, but not anymore, strictly HBD. I agree, the recruiting is a bore in Gridiron, after it's not new anymore.

I haven't. Paying quite a bit for the game when it just...didn't flow right kind of turned me off of it.

I'm thinking of running a "dynasty thread" over here with the Vols I'm running in one of the BBCF multiplayer leagues.

For anyone interested, I made the IHOF Bowl at fof-ihof.com, the equivalent of the Super Bowl.

The game will be 'broadcast' (text of the play by play will slowly be revealed) at noon EST Sunday at the forum over there.

The Knoxville Rebels (Orange and Black) take on the Orlando Knights. I have three Vols on the team...a starting linebacker, a 2nd string running back, and a scrub defensive end.

Of course, the players, teams, and the whole gaming universe is purely fictional, but I'm very excited to be playing in this game. It's my first multiplayer championship game ever.

FYI: I lost 41-21.

It was 21-14 at the half, I took the 2nd half kickoff and drove down to tie it up.

Orlando, the other team, scored again and I took over inside my own 20. I completed a pass to my best receiver, but he fumbled near our 37. Orlando scored another touchdown and never looked back.

To make matters worse, I enter cap hell at the start of the new season.

This sounds similar to Stellar College Basketball. It is a free (totally free, not a free trial) text-based college basketball simulation game. You coach the teams. It includes the 65 tournament teams from 2008 plus 35 older teams, ranging from 1954 Kentucky to 2007 Florida. The game can be dowloaded for free at index.
