Text Books

I know more about this business than you and I guarantee they aren't scamming anyone. By the way when you buy from Amazon and half you are contributing to 1) the used bookstore businesses and 2) the prices of textbooks rising for bookstores and in turn for you.

by the way, bookstores were doing it long before amazon and half.com started up. So they aren't major contributing factors. Nice try though.

You don't understand what I was saying. But whatever. Continue to think bookstores scam anyone.

I am at work on my iPhone. Forgive me for not typing out a long response explaining the economics of the textbook industry to you.

because you can't come up with a valid response that explains how a company can sell a book for $120 in the fall semester, buy it back for $5 then sell it in the spring semester for $105.

or that you know states like NY and Connecticut have taken textbook companies and stores to task about their overpricing and won?

Or because the keys are tiny. But I'll give you a simple answer. Supply and demand.

supply and demand does not mean it's not a scam. You've come up with some HORRID "facts" to your opinions, but that may be the worst.

It isn't my opinion. Pricing of buying books back is supply and demand simply. If we need a lot we pay 50% for it back. The fewer we need the price goes down. That is the truth. It's simple. The very fact that people feel entitled to be able to sell a book back for a high price everytime is ridiculous. It is a purchase. Not a rental with a refundable deposit.

that still doesn't explain buying it back for $5 and being able to resell it for $100. Not even cars depreciate like books. Nor is it "supply and demand" for a local bookstore to sell it for sometimes 2-300% more than can be found other places.

Prices vary because demand is different in different places. Jesus Christ. If you find a way to get your books cheaper then good for you. I am all about people saving money. But to say an indutry that is laying people off left and right and cannot hire anyone for the busiest times of the year is scamming people is ridiculous.

just because their scam no longer as successful as previous years doesn't mean it isn't a scam. To pretend otherwise is ridiculous. Now get off your iPhone. I'd hate for you to get laid off in such a hectic time.

One of my professors last semester used an old edition for the class so that we could save money, he told us to buy it online, could get it online for $1.50 and the Winthrop bookstore for $80. It's ridiculous. I always buy mine online, unless there is no possible way to buy it online. Like last semester, I had a work book for a class specifically made by the teacher, bought it, took the binding apart, made copies at work, put the binding back, and returned it by the time returns were still taken to pay nothing for it instead of the $50 for it. There are ways around it, and I find my way.

If anyone is the bad guy it is re textbook publishers. But continue to believe you know more than me about this.
