Don't imagine this is getting much play in East TN, but is all over the news in good ole Tejas

I don't get this one-at all. Yes, I am sure getting access to Texas recruits is important but the majority of schools in that "revamped" league cannot afford massive travel bills.

San Marcos where the school is located is kind of between Austin and San Antonio. I detest even going to that area and I only live 4 hours away.

Honestly sad to see the Pac reduced to this. What was once one of the funnest conferences in all of CFB, is now this ugly conference full of teams nobody cares about. I get Wazzu and Oregon State had no choice but to add whoever they could, but….. this was supposed to be a “best of the rest” conference, but it’s turned out to be anything but. The American is still the better conference overall, only Boise State is unquestionably better than Memphis, Tulane, and Army. Even Utah State lost to Temple last year.

God, just take me back to 2005 lol. I hate what these conferences have become. Screw USC and UCLA for destroying the Pac and leaving us with whatever this crap is supposed to be.

It makes sense from a market perspective and getting into TX.

Other than that though, eh. Not a needle mover

San Diego State and Fresno State are both decent enough (above average) teams.

SunBelt media payout is about $2.5M.
New PAC payout is around $10M.

Even if TX State has to take "halvsies" for a few years, they still double their media money from the SunBelt.

It's good for the PAC for new media territory and it's good for TX State for more money.

If TXSt manages to have a couple of winning seasons they could build a roster with TX leftovers like Baylor did when Briles was HC.

That also highlist the downside of being down the pecking order for TX talent. You have to take more chances on behavior problems and questionable decision-makers. You can enable them like Briles, or you can set them up with therapists and a decent support structure to slow their roll.

This will only be interesting if/when the ~32 major programs separate themselves from the rest of the FBS. Nice for Texas State to increase its conference payout and cool that the conference they're joining gets a footprint in Texas, but the new Pac-12 is much less impressive than the Mountain West Conference of 2007-2011 and we saw how stable that was (hell, look who comprises much of the new Pac-12!).

As it stands now, a once-mighty conference is just one of many middling transatlantic hodgepodges competing for the title of fifth best.

Also it gives them 8 teams.

We should go back to leather helmets, no face masks, and no forward passes too, right?

I get what you’re saying, but I blame Larry Scott and George Kliavkoff more than anyone . They let their brand go to $hit and couldn’t finalize a TV deal at the 11th hour. It’s ridiculous that half of the former PAC 12 play in conferences that have a majority of teams in Eastern or Central time.

Cal & Stanford might want to consider going back. They can still suck, but with far less expensive inter-league travel. I mean when you travel coast to coast to finish in the bottom of the ACC bucket, life ain't that great.

You would think that those 2 schools in particular would be very concerned w/ their carbon footprint of flying across the country every other weekend 👀

I am pretty sure they are still getting paid more in the ACC than they would in the PAC. even with the increased travel costs I don't think it offsets the pay increase.

the new Pac 12 deal is worth 12 million per school tops. at 30% contribution from the ACC Cal and Stanford are already close to that, with the max of 25 million after they are vested.

PAC-12 payouts were never gonna reach the other conferences levels even if it had stayed together. Time zone rendered them a 12:00 kick off league to hope for any significant national TV viewing. We're all in bed for their evening games and they weren't worth staying up for outside a few games a year.

So, the SEC and B10 combined have 34. Who would you kick out and then add? I would not kick out any of the 10 SEC school members before expansion started (including Vandy). Then you have ACC, B12, ND. How can it stay below ~60?
