Knowing Mack, I'd assume Applewhite is the hire.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't Applewhite. Wouldn't be a bad promotion though. Dude has potential.

Given the situation, it makes more sense to hire outside the program, but I guess you could spin the young blood angle.

Evan as a Baylor guy, I've always liked the Major but I don't think Texas will go that route yet. I think that AD DeLoss Dobbs learned that lesson back in the '80s when he fired Fred Akers in favor of home grown David McWilliams...put the Whorns into a nearly two decade funk. Major's day will come but not this soon IMO.

Really off the wall and would never happen (maybe) would be to hire Houston Cougar head coach Kevin Sumlin. Texas has the money to increase his salary 50% to double what it is now and not break a sweat. It would get his foot in the door as the Whorns next head coach and light a fire under Muschamp. Sumlin has been an assistant under Mike Price, Joe Tiller, Jim Wacker and Glen Mason and OC under R.C. Slocum and Bob Stoops. Unless he can pull a QB out of his azz the gig at Houston may be up.

If they don't promote frm within, which is unlikely, the candidate would have to be a hired gun or career coordinator. A move to TU head coach isn't a likely career step given the Muschump in waiting situation.
