Texas A&M wants to hear from you

As far as what we're most known for -

2 things I would say that are well known are the checkerboard end zones and the running through the T formed by the band as they play Rocky Top. Such a beautiful thing that gives me chills.

The band plays "Down the Field" (our fight song) as the team runs through the T. Not Rocky Top.

You are the only decent aggie I have run across. Welcome to Volnation, & great post.

I can't say I've read every post in this thread but here are a few reactions:

1. Most Aggies are delighted to be in the SEC. If anybody who says they are Aggies tells you otherwise, they are probably from tu.
2. Tennessee has always been the "real UT", because Aggies refer to the school for those maggot-infested hippies in Austin as "tu".
3. A&M's school colors were originally red. But in the early 1900's a supplier screwed up the uniform order and A&M received jerseys in maroon. Since a lot of schools used red the powers that be decided to stick with maroon. And that is perfectly A&M -- a mistake leads to a tradition.
4. Speaking of tradition, if anything happens at A&M more than once, it is labeled a tradition. And if it is a tradition it is vehemently defended. Take the yell leaders -- that tradition started when a bunch of freshman dressed up in the white coverals and started directing the crowd. (Women were not admitted at the time). The collective thought that was great and kept it up. Now it is a tradition, and if any suggests something new such as cheerleaders, they are likely to get skewered with a saber.
5. Every Texas schoolboy and schoolgirl knows the story of the Alamo and of the brave Tennessee volunteers who fought and died there. And every Texan knows of Davy Crockett's famous quote after he lost his reelection, "you may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas." But few know that another group of volunteers fought and died during the Texas Revolution. Actually, they were murdered under orders from Santa Anna following the Battle of Coleto Creek, near the town of Goliad. These volunteers were the Red Rovers, (who were from Alabama).
6. And finally, A&M's most cherished tradition is Muster, which is always held on April 21st, San Jacinto Day, in celebration of the great victory by another Tennesee volunteer, General Sam Houston. (History | Aggie Muster)

I for one thank you all for your great welcome and I look forward to taking in a game some day. You may run into an occassional Aggie jackhole every now and then, but I can almost guarantee that the A&M jackhole percentage is a lot lower than your other opponents. And when you do spot that jackhole, look around for other Aggies as they are much more likely to solve the jackhole problem for you than they are to join in with the jh.

Cute pictures of Aggie cheerleaders would go a longggg way in showing true sportsmanship to the Big Orange Nation :hi:

^This.

As best I recall ATM seems to always have some cutie cheerleaders. :good!:

R y'all being serious??? ATM doesn't have female cheerleaders. Read #4 on his list again. They have Yell Leaders...Male Yell Leaders. One of their strictest traditions. A girl just tried to tryout and she was told no thank you.

I don't know what they call em,,,pom pom girls.....field dancers.....eye candy, but i've seen girls at the ATM games in some kind of uniform that looked like a cheerleaders and they were cuuuute!

The Male Yell Leaders.....not so much. Remind me of this ----> :clapping:

Welcome... Lived in Texas for a few years when I was a kid and they had a whole week dedicated in school to Texas history. Got to read and study most of the Tennessee heros that help Texas gain independence from Santa Anna.

My whole 7th grade history curiculum was TX history.

This is great news for Auburn. Only Texas A&M has more jokes about its students. Of course many of the jokes are completely interchangeable. In addition, both used to regularly lose to UT.

Aggie Jokes!

Auburn Jokes!

What's the "N" in Auburn stand for?

Nowledge.

Love it! I've mention this before, but forgot about how it could be compared to auburn jokes. Nice job!:good!:

- What’s the most important thing you think Aggie fans need to know about the University of Tennessee?
[/i]

Some historical context:
*Tennessee is the winningest program in college football since 1926. This may seem arbitrary but it is anything but... 1926 is the year General Neyland became the head coach at the University of Tennessee so that in-and-of itself is of incredible significance in the history of college football.

As an aside it is worth it to do some reading about Neyland if you are a fan of college football history. His contributions to the game were some of the most innovative in the history of the sport. As this is not a Neyland thread, I'll leave it to you to research all of the details.

*Tennessee is second all-time in home victories.

*Tennessee is top three all-time in both bowl appearances and bowl wins.

Tennessee has a game day tradition that is unrivaled in college football. Neyland stadium exists as a cathedral to college football, the state of Tennessee and to those traditions while serves as its sanctuary. Be sure to check out Salute to the Hill, the Pride of The Southland Marching band, and one of the most photographed moments in all of sports: Running Through the "T".

While the state and university lack nicknames or mascots of the tigers and elephants seen all across the SEC the name Volunteers holds a much deeper meaning to the history of our country and state. We see our name and institution as a greater embodiment of service, sacrifice and the American dream. Indeed, it is our history and culture that have led to the proliferation of the University and football traditions. Football, therefore, is not only a true family affair for Tennesseans but also represents the most outward extension and representation of our history. The University of Tennessee: Tennessee Traditions

Good luck and welcome to the SEC!

Welcome to the SEC :)

We are dedicated to tradition here. From the Vol walk to Runnin through the T, we are all about our Vols. And as said before in previous posts We are the real UT and wear the real Orange (our school was founded in 1794 while the posers were founded in 1883...so we have name and color rights)

I bet there are a bunch of Aggies out there that never read about Davey Crockett's last minutes....how he looked over the walls of the Alamo and saw hundreds of Mexicans......and then turned to man beside him and said "I didn't know they were pouring concrete today".......famous last words
