Did Tennessee pass him up??? I am pretty sure that he accepted a contract extension from Houston on the 15th of January and then Tennessee hired Dooley on the
16th.

Also when are schedule to play A&M the first time?? Or has that came out yet?

I'm pretty sure Sumlin really wanted the Tennessee job when it was available. Him and Dooley were some of the few that did. Don't kill me if i'm wrong. ha:peace2:

A&M has been decent. Why would they fire him going into their first SEC season?

I'd probably look at Sumlin more than anything because he would probably have an establish recruiting base in Texas.

Let's start the hire Mike Sherman thread right now! This man can coach O line and run the offense. So that would free up Jim Chaney to work elsewhere. Then we can hire Mike Stoops to run the defense and move Wilcox over to coaching the DB's and get rid of Terry Joeseph. Last but not least hire Larrry Porter to coach the RB's. This staff would be outstanding but how long would it stay together after winning??

Keep dreaming, for better or worse Chaney isn't going anywhere next year.

so you really think a DC who would be snapped up by a number of programs would just accept a demotion at UT and be happy? People really need to start thinking through these scenarios before posting them

worrrd. Its like Hello pot meet kettle. definitely strikes close to home.

Sherman had like four years several classes. Talent depth and high expectations. And also didn't play the toughest schedule in the nation. All not the case with Dooley ...,

Some teams pay for success. We are not one of those schools.

None of the guys mentioned will command a big salary coming in. They'll load it with incentives but the base will be low. Sherman's buyout is actually $5.8 million. Dooley's would be $5 million.

Sherman had 4 years and a team loaded with HIS players. Dooley has not and does not.

If DD is 6-6 in year 4.... I will be the first to say he should be let go.

Much like Sherman, I look for the CDD scenario to go about the same way or worse. CDD had 2 losing seasons just as Sherman did. He then went 9-3 as his schedule got alot easier, and then 6-6 this year. While I doubt CDD wins 9 games as our schedule has got alot easier in year 3, we will be looking for a new coach in year 3 or 4. We are just postponing the inevitable.
