I would take our Dan Williams any day over Mt. Cody. If you ask Monte Kiffin, he would tell you the same. Cody is an over weight line clogger who didn't go pro last year because, according to my sources, actually would have not been drafted higher than third round.

Look at the stats for this year (UT has only played 6 games, Bama 7):
Dan Williams: Tackles 29 (12 solo, 17 assists) 2TFL, 5 QB hurries
Terrence Cody: Tackles 15 (10 solos, 5 assists) 5 TFL, zero sacks zero QB hurries

If I were Lane/Chaney I would run a no huddle to keep this fat slow lineman in the game on passing situations. Bama's strength lies in their linebackers and not their DL, IMO.

Strengths are relative. The D-line could be pretty good, but the line backers just that much more stellar.

beating the tide is gonna be mission impossible ...remember what the next game was like after crompdaddy threw those 5td's against wku?

I just hope us having a couple weeks to get healthy and Bama playing a tough game may be the difference.

What do you mean, calling yourself a rockytopper and saying beating those thugs in South Tennessee is "Impossible" I am a tennessee fan.. I go to win, if a win is impossible then I say let's just forfeit and not risk having our sissy players being hurt... Impossible is bull.. we may not win I agree, the task, as any time we play Alabama will be difficult, but to say it is impossible is an insult to the orange .... SICK EM SMOKEY LET"S HAVE ROASTED ELEPHANT THIS WEEKEND"

Word.

If you can go uptempo on that D and operate quickly and mistake-free, than I think you are spot-on.

Trouble is, I don't know about the "if".

Whether he's overrated or not, he's effective at cloggin up the middle enough to take that option away from teams. Considering that's our strength.....the inside run, he looms as a large hurdle to overcome. CLK will have to try and attack the perimeter and hopefully hit something over the top. Make no mistake, this team is better equipped to stop the run than Florida was. Crompdaddy will have to have a big game.

it's going to take a great game plan to pull this one off. If any one can come up with this plan, I trust Kiffin & Co. to be the ones to do so. Impossibilities fly out the window when it comes to Saturday. More so when it's a rivalry. BUCK FAMA

Mt Cody is used differently then Dan Williams so throw the stats out the window, they do not apply. Cody gets double teamed which allows for mismatches in run defense and pass defense. I do agree a no huddle with dinks and dunks not allowing subsitutions for their D is the right strategy. Controlling time of possesion and no huddle could lead to a W but, JC has to play mistake free football.

From what I've seen most of the success running against Bama comes from getting the ball to the outside

Cody is Extra Large but not overrated. Big Dan has played awesome too. That don't take away what Cody does for their defense. The catch here is the matchups. Unfortunately, Cody will force a double on every run play.

You can bet Lane and co. are drawing up a plan to keep them on the field. If we're able to keep them on the field by the 4th Quarter they will be gassed (like any D)...but the Dline will be exposed and Hardesty can take advantage.

we were watching the Bama game last night and were discussing if there was any way Cody could really be in shape.

Just be glad USCjr couldn't capitalize on your mistakes Bammer. Something LK, im sure, is preaching to the team.

Yeah, he looks and acts like a walking heart attack sometimes. I saw him over on the side line gasping for air. The man must have one strong heart to play with that type of intensity carrying all that fat.

Speeding up the game cannot possibly work to our advantage.

All I can say is mount cody v.s. Cody sullens doesn't sound good but cody has tons of heart and work ethic I think we can contain him.

well let's hope Sullins heart weighs about 70lbs. No way he will handle him 1 on 1

You can't judge a DT's or nose tackle's effectiveness based on tackle numbers alone. Anybody who can hold his position in the middle of the defensive line against one or two blockers jams up the middle and makes it easier for the other players on the front seven to make plays. We'll see how we fare: We will have to throw the ball effectively on FIRST down to win this game, IMO. While 3rd down is a money down in a lot of ways, 3rd down effectiveness is in large measure of how many yards you gain on first. We have to make plays on first down...

What I would do is make a lane wider than Mt. Cody, and chop his ass on every play. Zone blocking is actually what will make Mt. Cody ineffective. If we can blindside block Cody, there will be holes in the backfield.
