Rival's overall #1 football player for the 08 class and top 50 basketball player listed UT along with OSU, PSU, and UF as teams he can think of off the top of his head he is looking at. He said he will list a top 10 in a couple of weeks. He says he wants to play both if possible(and it will affect his decision), but will make the decision based on football.

Rivals tabs him as the next Vince Young(VY was Rivals #1 player in his class).

There are a lot of similarities...Pryor may be a little faster...if recruits were cars, this kid would be a Ferrari. He'd look nice wearing the orange.

do you really think we have a legit shot with him?

Yeah, I'd say we have a legit shot.

I think Ohio St. is the team to beat...but, you never know...If UT's staff can get him on campus for an official, the Vols could put themselves in a very good position to land him.

And, with basketball playing a factor in his decision, he'll get to spend a little time with Pearl. Bruce can flat-out recruit...having the full-court press from Fulmer and Pearl gives us a chance on Rocky Top.

It'd be a suprise if he chose UT...but it's possible.

It seems unlikely that a player of his caliber would also play basketball, but meeting Bruce can't hurt.

He's a big-time basketball prospect...ranked among the top 30 overall players in the country (the #4 small forward in his class). How is it unlikely that he'd play basketball? He's got pro potential in both sports.

I thought it said #50 in bball in another post. But anyway, even if he says he wants to play both, do you think a head football coach would allow him, or encourage him to do so? What starting QB for a nationally competitive program also played another major sport? When's the last time a prominent athlete played 2 major sports in college?

Julius Peppers?
Tony Gonzalez?

My point is, it doesn't happen much and doesn't seem likely, no matter how good he is at both.

No, I just wasn't for sure and was too lazy to check the exact number. I know he was a 5*(and top 20) but dropped a little.

Charlie Ward and Donovan McNabb come to mind.

Of course it doesn't happen often...it's not often a player is talented enough to play both sports...it's really rare for a guy to be projected this highly in both sports. It's tough to juggle both, but it's not unlikely that he'll play both at the next level. Eventually he'll have to pick one, and it'll likely be football...but, as I said, he's got pro potential in both sports....

Some other athletes I could think of that played 2 sports in college...

Ron Curry, Jeremy Bloom, Todd Helton, Chad Hutchinson, Dave Winfield, Danny Ainge, Darin Erstad (I think), Kenny Lofton, Donovan McNabb, Charlie Ward, Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson, Ricky Williams (minor league baseball), Tony Gwynn, Matt Jones, Frank Thomas...

McNabb played a total of 116 minutes in 2 years on the Syracuse basketball team. That's less than 2 minutes per game. Charlie Ward is the only one I can think of who made significant contributions in both football (as a QB) and basketball. And his college days ended about a dozen years ago.

So we think he's going to be 1 out of about 7 guys in recent history to play both sports (and 7 is stretching it) and make significant contributions in both?

well ive never seen the guy play either sport so i dont know if he can or not, all i am saying is its possible for him to do so
