The players involved in the tattoo bartering and gold pants fiasco. They all gave a vow to return for next season so they could play in bowl game. My thing is Pryor is supposedly debating whether a 5 game suspension is worth coming back for or just enter draft. If I was the NCAA I would tell the other players that for every player that doesn't return next season to honor their suspension then each of you gets a game or 2 added to your suspension. You know the old coaches practice trick. If one guy screws up or doesn't give effort or get's in trouble then he sits in a chair at half court or mid field while the rest of the team runs stadium steps or suicide sprints. To me it is only fair.

NCAA has no stake in Pryor coming back. Handshake agreement with he and Tressel.

It was clearly a solid agreement that willl prove to be devastating to them if they dont honor it. I dont see why those good honorable boys that made the promise to the vest would ever go back on their word, its as good as gold.

this thread seems to have been started with the idea that Tressel actually cares. Not sure I understand why

Shouldn't have been any penalties laid down by the ncaa. They sold their own belongings for Gods sake

If Ohio State does not offer to renew Pryor's contract, I'd say he's as good as gone.

Who cares? This is small crap. Not even worth mentioning let alone a suspension.

Wrong. They received extra benefits. Big or small, it is a violation. The NCAA made A.J. Green pay the price, so should it be with TP and company. To allow them to play the bowl game was a complete joke.

Not much on rules huh?

It's more than that...you have the greedy a** NCAA telling kids that they can't even have the crumbs off the table. Ok wait... you can have the crumbs but you can't sell them. Because their still ours even though their yours....or something like that.

The items were given to them and they were told not to sell them (as stated by other players). They also received improper benefits by receiving discounts just because they played football. Only issue I have is the NCAA allowed them to play in the bowl game because of money

Nobody is making them play. They knew the rules when they decided to play the game. Playing is a luxury, not a privilege.

But how can you tell someone what to do with their own property? Constitutionally, (Which is the higher power here, though not involved) they can do what ever they want to do with their own property. The discounted Tatoo thing would be very hard to prove.

But suspend them for 5 games? Thats ridiculous.

Constitutionally? Give me a break. They knew there were rules when they signed the LOI and accepted the money from their school. They chose to break them and got punished. The tattoo thing was admitted to so I'm not sure it was that hard to prove

A LOI does supersede your rights to your own property.

Leave to the NCAA to say what you can and can't do with your belongings.

Playing is a luxury for the University. They're the ones making millions of them

These players are student-athletes. Nobody is making them play for the university. If they don't like the system, they don't have to play. Besides, tOSU has already compensated players like TP by supplying them with a free education. Take any school's yearly tuition and room and board, and multiple it times however long the student-athlete is in school there. There is your compensation.

Athletes like TP are the reason why Universities are able to "give" away education.
