Tennessee's Top Ten Players

Agree for the most part except for Evan Berry at #7. He will be out PR/KR guy probably but he might not even be the starter in the secondary due to all the talent we will have back there now.

I think he's no better than 3rd-4th best back there at safety now after all the signings we've had in the secondary along with who we have coming back for 2016.

BTW, the most versatile of those top 10 is definitely #5 in Kamara. That kid can do so much for this team on offense. He will be a solid weapon not only running the ball but receiving it as well. He can't be covered coming out of the backfield or lining up as a WR/slot.

So who would you put in Berry's spot, Tony? Gaulden maybe? That'd be a pretty good choice. Ethan Wolf or Josh Smith could really have breakout years, too, so they're options. Josh Malone, too, if he came on like gangbusters this fall. We got O'Brien (most improved in spring camp), KMac, and Shy on the DLine for possibilities, too....

If I was picking which position that I think these 10 players would get drafted I would change the order to:
1.Barnett
2.Sutton
3.Reeves-Maybin
4.Preston Williams
5.Hurd
6.Kamara
7.TKjr
8.Evan Berry
9.Dobbs
10.Thomas

I know that all of these players won't be in the same draft class, and of course we know that the players aren't drafted solely off of talent. What a particular NFL team needs and position are also determining factors, but for a ranking based off talent this is a pretty good list.

Gaulden would definitely be a good choice in place of Berry but he didn't play at all in 2015 so that wouldn't be fair probably. I'd have to say Josh Malone if he comes in & gives it his all. This kid has all the talent in the world but he doesn't seem to have the drive.

Next would probably be Kirkland Jr. at LB. This kid is all over the field like JRM. He's just not learned to play the position quite as good yet but this kid I believe is more talented that JRM.

Dobbs at #9? Are you serious? He's way higher on the list than that. I'm not saying he's definitely #1 but he's up there for sure.

I don't know about P Williams ahead of Hurd. Marquez North stud receiver but, could never be a consistent big time contributor. P Williams may out class them all but, we don't have much to go on ... yet. Maybe just flip those two. They are all so good it's a hard task. To me, Reeves-Maybin may be the one who saves our butts with the most big stops(plays) when we need it. My three cents.

ESPN's Ed Aschoff (a nasty Gator) says these are our top 10 players in 2016. I think he may be close to right. What do you think?

Top-10 players spring update: Tennessee Volunteers - SEC Blog- ESPN

TL;DR version:
1. Sutton
2. Barnett
3. Hurd
4. JRM
5. Kamara
6. Dobbs
7. Evan Berry
8. PWill
9. Coleman
10. TKJr

Dobbs is way too low at #6. He's easily one of our 3 best players IMO. And if he figures out and solves his accuracy issue, he'll likely be our best IMO. I also don't think I'd have Coleman in the top 10.

I was referencing what positions these players get drafted, not who is the most talented. NFL teams draft off of need and position, as well as talent. Dobbs is very talented but Watson, Kelly, as well as other QB's will prob get drafted ahead of him, unless he makes huge improvements in his passing accuracy.

I agree with you. We can't go anywhere without Dobbs leading our offense.

Where these players get drafted wasn't the thread topic though buddy.

I could see that. I put Williams ahead of Hurd because receivers are more valuable in the draft than RB's. Also, I believe that by the time that P Willy leaves Tennessee for the draft he will be a top 3 WR prospect. The kid has that much upside.

I didn't say it was. Read my entire comment before you put your 2 cents in next time. I said the author's list was pretty accurate if you are basing it off of talent alone, but my list was for draft position. Reading Comprehension is critical when reading.

Calm down. No need to get your blood boiling. It's ok! We all make mistakes in life & misread or misunderstand posts.

Once again, I wasn't referencing who is most talented, I was referring to NFL draft position for these ten players. I explained it in my original post. Just trying to offer a different viewpoint on this subject from what VFL-JP-82 originally posted.

Wasn't responding to you, only Ashcroft's original list. Choose em and place em however you want. Just saying I disagreed with Ashcroft's list.

You know we are back on the rise when there are a good 10-15 MORE players that we could argue could be on that list (now or near future) i.e. Malone, Smith, Gaulden, Tuttle, Mckenzie, Phillips, Kirkland Jr, Wolf, McDowell, Jennings, Griffin, Vereen. And still guys coming in like Guarantano, Warrior, Byrd, etc that will make an impact for sure.

I could (kinda) agree with your list if it was most important players on the team, in regards to having success this upcoming season. But, as far as raw talent, Josh Smith is not Preston Williams and I would expect every NFL scout would agree.

Yeah, 83, I absolutely agree with you there. We have an overflowing bounty of talent. And if they continue to gel into a good team as well, all moving with one purpose, then there will be very few teams in the country who can compare. :good!:
