I know we have all read a lot of articles on the team and their run, but this great to see national exposure on such a great coach. I had my doubts after losses vs. Candybilt and twice to A&M.. But this is our coach and we should all recognize the magnificent job he has done with these players under his tenure. Let's go get that win Friday boys!

We cannot judge it on next year when we lose everybody, but Josh in our starting lineup. Hopefully Stokes comes back, but I do not expect that. We will not have the same type of year by any means next season.

We will see next year if it was the coach or the players...

How will you be able to tell next year if you can't tell this year. Martin ain't changing and probably hasn't changed since he got here.

Next year their will be change, because we have 3 seniors gone, history. Hard to derive anything about whether or not it was the players or the coach.....

I think seeing how they start next season will be interesting to watch. Not all players/teams play their best bball with their backs to a corner like this one does. So I'm anxious to see if we see a greater sense of urgency earlier than we have the last 3. JMO

Didn't see this posted. (edit: mergeilicious)

The true imprint Tennessee coach Cuonzo Martin has made on his team can be seen in their expressions.

The third-year coach, who has the Volunteers back in the NCAA tournament's Sweet 16 for the first time since 2010, has faced criticism from a number of fans about his sideline demeanor. He's too menacing. He doesn't smile often. He lacks charisma. During the Vols' struggles this season, Martin's biggest problem was that he wasn't former coach Bruce Pearl.

I think he has validated with the players the good things that can happen if you buy into his approach.

I am surprised, that nobody has mentioned, that during the Iowa game how quickly he pulled Barton out. Barton missed his first 2 3s and CCM did hesitate to pull him out. When Barton went back into the game he has played solid since.

I use to get upset because I did not think CCM was working the Refs very much, but I have noticed in the last several games (SECT included) that he is but not during play but during timeouts. He is asking questions with answers.

I really think the Refs enjoy this style of approach, not that we are getting any calls just more latitude. Very Professional way of working the Refs and getting your point across to them. A lot of Respect both ways.

I'm going to start underperforming on my job tomorrow and do so until about December. Then, I'm going to start living up to expectations and doing a good job through next March.

Hopefully people will then write articles about how great I am and my boss will consider giving me a raise. Also, I expect all those who were critical of my underachieving to write sappy notes full of b.s. about how sorry they were for disrespecting me.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Unless you're making a million plus coaching UT basketball, I doubt if anybody gives an F how it turns out Rerun.

Or at least not admittting that they weren't getting the job done. The adversity they was self induced. The "we silenced the doubters" rhetoric is tiresome to anyone with an ounce of critical thinking. You deserved to be criticized, Martin deserved to be on the hot seat, you were playing like garbage.

How about this. "We weren't getting it done" how about it, one time. Anyone.

pretty sure your job isn't based on a postseason…

otoh, if you were, in fact, to slack off all the time but yet managed to land all the huge accounts, then your boss would probably keep you around and reward you handsomely

If you do a poor job and are criticized for it and then come back and do a great job, that doesn't mean you never deserved criticism.

I don't think he was worried about some constructive criticism. I think maybe by "doubters" he's talking about the 36,000 plus people that signed a petition to get him fired.

And when we are at the bottom of the SEC for the next 2 years and he is then fired, you can decide whether that sweet 16 was worth it.

What if you're a manager and your direct reports underperform for months despite constant coaching, only to finally come together as a team and do a kickass job on a big project for an important client?

Before I go down this road with you I want to be clear about one thing.

Do you agree there is criticism and then there is bad form.

A particular fan disagrees with a coach's use of a time out. A particular fan questions this substitution over that substitution, whether to play man or zone...how is it possible we lost to a team with 7 scholarship players...In my mind that is all fair game. Wanting to fire a coach at the end of year three if he doesn't make the tourney...even that, while one may question the reasonableness of it, all fair.

SOME...some... in this fan base went way beyond that. Not only did they go far past that, they couldn't wait until the end of the season to do it...COULD NOT WAIT...

NOW, some of the same people want to take credit for the turn around WHILE saying they are offended that the players would use a phrase like "we silenced the doubters"...Gimmie an f'n break.

You don't like Martin, you prefer Pearl...there's a way to go about it and the way SOME CHOSE TO DO SO IS SHAMEFUL regardless of how much money a person makes.

F Pearl. The thing that I don't like, is that he has 1 sure fire SEC player returning (Richardson) 2 borderline SEC players( Thompson, Moore) 1 we aren't sure about (hubbs) about 6-8 we know cant play and 4 3 star freshman coming in. That's what offends me.

This roster will suck. Terribly. Its not up for debate, its not going to be close. This roster is in awful shape the day the season ends.

The fact that the team gets no production whatsoever off the bench and is about to lose 4 starters would be a great clue.

How much did Maymon produce when he was coming off the bench for Stephen Pearl?
