ICE HOCKEY!

The Ice Vols are currently 18-1 with their only loss coming against the defending national champs, Wright State, in Dayton. They are ranked #1 in the South Region of the ACHA, and are pretty much a lock to make nationals in Ft. Wayne, Indiana this March.

Tennessee has already clinched the SECHL title by sweeping Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and winning the first game against Alabama (second game is next month).

The Ice Vols are wrapping up their home schedule, and play this weekend against MTSU (9:00pm Fri & Sat at the IceArium) before heading off to the Regional Tournament in Atlanta next week.

The hockey team has outscored its oppoents 180-46 so far this season, that averages out to be 9-2 each game. Who says hockey is low-scoring?:)

Be careful. You can dislocate a shoulder patting yourself on the back so much.

As long as its not one of the players' shoulders, its all good. :p With the players we have this year, we have a legit shot at a national title.

sorry, we're not allowed to root for you if the only reason we want to is because you're good. if we suddenly decided to pull for the ice vols at this time, it would be judged as "pathetic" by some of our reptilian visitors. no school pride allowed.

ok, sorry, that was a bad effort at joke. but i couldn't resist. good luck.

Best of luck. If I weren't headed to Memphis tomorrow, I would stop in and catch a game.

I highly recommend going to an IceVols game. I went to a couple as a student and had a great time. The one I remember best(we always took some whiskey, hey it is hockey afterall) was a thrilling 11-9 win over Vandy. Obviously tons of goals, and lead changes. Some good hits too. If you have the time check it out, it's way better than American Idol. Congrats IceVols keep it up.

Is this a club team or real deal D1 playing Michigan status? I find it hard to believe it's D1 with the Minnesotas and Michigans of the hockey world.

I'm pretty sure it is club. I couldn't find a link so I checked ESPN and we aren't ranked.

Congrats to the ICE HOCKEY team! Would be nice to see them make the "ELITE 8" or better!:eek:k:
I've only been to one hockey game in my life and that was the Washington Caps vs. Philadelphia Flyers years ago. I catch a few minutes of games every so often but not full games.

I was asked the same thing on another board, and asked to give a "sports analogy" answer...

Basically, UT Hockey is to Minnesota/Michigan Hockey as Appalachian State Football is to UT Football.

We aren't at the top level, but we pull in some pretty good players and compete for conference and national titles at our level. (only we can't give scholarships) We have recruited against and gotten some players from NCAA D-3 schools and one that chose us over a spot at an NCAA D-1 school.

Another way to look at it, using baseball.
Michigan/Minnesotas/etc. = The Majors
Penn State/Rhode Island/etc. = AAA
Tennessee/Kentucky/etc. = AA

Does anyone remember our Farm teams in Nashville, the South Stars and Knights? Those were some fun times, especially on nickel beer night.

Oh yeah, the Knights were the only game in town when I lived in Middle TN. The Preds didn't come until after I left for college. I remember the Knights inflato-mascot guy getting into a fight with the coach of another team. The coach tried to pull the inflato-suit guy over the boards onto the bench:eek:lol:
