Tennessee's Emphatic Win vs. Va Tech Makes Statement to Unsettled SEC East | Bleacher Report

Two things got accomplished that were imperative to the Vols living up to the preseason hype that landed them leading the field into Turn 1 as SEC East favorites.
They needed to know they could close out a big game in front of a tough opponent with the lead—which is something they did after punting to the Hokies up 14 points in the fourth quarter with momentum swinging quickly to the opponent's sideline.
But Michah Abernathy recovered his second fumble of the quarter, and Tennessee's offensive stars put it away.
Joshua Dobbs—who was a non-factor on the ground in the season-opening overtime win over Appalachian State—scooted in from 27 yards out to cap off a four-play drive following a Hokies fumble to stretch the Vols' lead to 38-17, and essentially put the game out of reach. It was the last of Dobbs' five touchdowns on the night, and a sign that the Vol offense found its identity inside the unfamiliar setting in the middle of a NASCAR track.

The Orange Giant woke up tonight. This could be a special season

Show me an SEC East team that has shown that fight on consecutive weeks?
You'll be scrambling for a while, because that team doesn't exist.
Georgia struggled in a 26-24 win over Nicholls out of the FCS on Saturday, and that's not even a good FCS team. While they have improved a little bit the Colonels have won nine games since the start of the 2011 season. Florida looked great on Saturday in a dominating win over Kentucky, but struggled dispatching of UMass—one of the worst teams an SEC team faced in Week 1.
Every other team in the SEC East appears to be a hot mess.
Tennessee now has comeback wins over a solid Appalachian State team and showed massive improvement in another emphatic, comeback win over Virginia Tech in a big-game setting that showed that the Vols have solved some of their issues from the season-opener.

Barrett for the win once again

Go Vols

Even though VA Tech was not ranked coming in, they are a solid program with a good tradition...and still have a "name" which is why the game was so hyped in the first place.

Primetime national broadcast in a majorly hyped matchup...with Gameday on site...biggest crowd in history...etc etc....Vols showed why the hype was there in the first place. Still some concerns for sure...but a big win imo.

Ohhhh you have done it now

I have to face the facts and so does everyone else. UFs defense may be better than last years and thats scary. Our offense has regressed so far and is not even remorely as scary as last year. Our OL has regressed and are getting beaten up front consistently by inferior DL while only rushing 3 guys.

I really thought the Vols would make a big improvement this week. I didnt see it. We gave up 400 yards to VT. OL and passing game are still below average. I am happy with the win but this team did not play like it wants to win a championship in my opinion.

Be ready for the Negavol label. The base cant understand someone enjoying a win and seeing the obvious holes in this team moving forward.

Because..............It's impossible for Tennessee to "ever" beat Florida?

UF is getting their offense together. I realize it was against Kentucky but still. UFs defense may be even better than last years. They made a huge improvement from week 1. In my opinion, we didnt. Think about it, our OL got beaten multiple times with only 3 guys to block. That was VTs DL. So in consecutive weeks our vaunted experienced OL has been beaten by Appalachian State and Virginia Techs DL. Thats all that needs to be said.

No its not impossible for UT to beat UF. However, given how poorly our OL has looked this season, what gives you any reason to think we look better than UF?

I mean does blowing out Kentucky really make them the favorites.

We have blown out Kentucky several times recently while Florida has barely escaped with a couple wins against them, but Florida would still beat us.

I don't think how a team plays against Kentucky should be reflective of anything IMO.

Right. Because they whipped that Kentucky team that lost to Southern Miss. We would've beaten Kentucky just as bad, maybe worse.

Based on what? How we have performed so far? I highly doubt it. Would we beat UK? Yes. Would we dominate them like UF? Highly doubtful. I really dont see how you can have any faith in this OL.

I gave the OL a pass for App st, but what did we see against VT? Pretty much the same thing. VT rushinh 3 guys ahd STILL getting pressure, consistently. Hurd getting hit in the backfield consistently. Dobbs making bad throws again.

I am one of the first guys to call out Negavols. I have been an outspoken opponent to them and have called them idiots. If I am a Nega right now, then so be it. In my opinion I saw bery little improvement from week 1. Will we see more improvement next week? Probably but it is Ohio. I mean the OL should be able to impose their will on their DL. Although honestly, I am not so sure they can.

I am happy with the win but see major problems for supposedly such a talented team.

Absolutely nothing. Its just that I have developed a respectful understanding of the great proverb,"Sh!# Happens" and, I'm hopeful.:)
