The key to Saturdays showdown against Oklahoma is the d-line. They have to DOMINATE. Oklahoma is starting two freshmen at tackle and they struggled to run the ball against Akron (albeit their d-line is very talented for a MAC team).

If our d-line performs like they did against Bowling Green. Getting very little pressure and not causing lots of sacks, we'll be in trouble. However, I don't think that happens. I think the guys we expected to be a strength for our team (Derek Barnett and Curt Maggitt) show up Saturday.

Look out for a Texas A&M vs. Arizona St. feel to the game. I expect it to be competitive early. However, we pull away late thanks to our d-line causing havoc against an inexperienced offensive line for Oklahoma.

I'm with Bleacher Report that the biggest name to watch for is Kerbyson. He could be.the.key to the offense.

Could be that...or it could be turnovers. Or coaching adjustments. or the team that hits the most big plays. Or the...

I think the deciding factor is who scores the most points.

OU doesn't run as fast as BGSU... actually not even close. Mayfield holds the ball longer than Williams and was forced out of the pocket numerous times by Akron.

If UT's DL beats their OL then they'll have a really tough time scoring points.

Oklahoma has extremely talented RBs. Long, tall, fast receivers. A decent QB for their system. And a talented defense. Their only weakness right now is the offensive line. I agree with Butch Jones when he says they're a top 5 football team. I think they win the Big 12 this year. And will be a factor in the playoff race.

However, we can still beat them. We're just as talented when it comes to personnel. We'll be at home. And we have the players along the defensive line to exploit their biggest weakness. If Derek Barnett and Curt Maggitt can cause as much disruption as Myles Garrett and Daeshon Hall did last week, we'll be sitting pretty at 2-0.

This will be a battle. But I'm confident that our boys are ready for the challenge. Should be an electric night at Neyland.

This game will be decided by who disrupts each others primary attacks. For Oklahoma, they have to disrupt your Read Option game. For the Vols, it is stop Oklahoma's short passing game. At that point, which ever coaching staff makes the quickest adjustments will win.

Disagree with the quickness, but I do think BGSU's QB has a chance to have a better year than Baker Mayfield

Sorry. I was talking about how quickly they run their O. Last year, they avg'd running a play about 6 seconds faster than OU did.

I think one of Williams' advantages is that he's had a better chance to develop rapport with his WR's. But their system pushes to get it out early... even the longer routes.

UT just missed a couple of picks by jumping routes. At least one would have been a pick 6.

Have you been able to meander over to youtube and watch the Sooners first game? Getting plays off in less than 8 seconds at times against Akron. That is something to watch for on Saturday

BGSU ran a play once every 18.5 seconds. OU was improved from last year about 2 seconds per play to just under 22 seconds per play. UT was about 23.5 per play even considering they started trying to run clock late in the 3rd qtr.

I think you're dead-on, D4H, both in your assessment and in the details. Our front 7 are the key. And if they play assignment football, like they know how, and are explosive and aggressive in execution of their duties, and they communicate with each other well...we're going to confuse and frustrate their talented young QB. And if we can keep him off-balance, yo-yo'ing in and out of focus, we win.

Oklahoma's going to find ways to give us fits when we're on offense, too. Our OLine will not look as good in Week 2 as they did Week 1. Those in VN who are inclined to panic and freak out (you know who you are) will be yelling to fire Mahoney-DeBord just as loudly next week as they were willing to throw laurels on their heads this week.

But even with our improved OLine severely tested, we still have Dobbs, Hurd and Kamara. Hurd, who found a way to run for 900+ yards last year even without any OLine help. Dobbs whose elusiveness is becoming legendary. And Kamara, who can Ninja-drift.

Oh, one other guy's gotta show up with his head on straight: Aaron Medley, redemption time, man. Exorcise the demons with a big night.

102,455 noise-makers on top of all that, and we pull out a hugely impressive W.

Go Vols!

If we can hold them to 3 points through all the 1st and most of the 2nd quarters like Akron did we will walk out with the W

I think it may come down to Medley, you're right JP. I think he comes back into form this week. Let's pray he doesn't hit the Daniel Lincoln sophomore slump.
