Tennessee's Butch Jones plans to 'thoroughly' examine the program

I can't get as exercised as the rest of you about Jones. Yea, the team had two bad losses to end the year, which was horrible, because the defensive unit absolutely imploded. We know that injuries were a big reason for that collapse, and our highly touted DC--a guy everyone thought was a home run hire--could fix it. If unit coaches are an issue, then, yea, that will have to be addressed--but I can't get furious about it.

Three straight years with higher than average injury rates.... and he's done nothing about the S&C staff or methods.

I doubt he'll do much if anything.
He knows we want change so why not put this out to extinguish some torches...

Impossible, he's leaving, being fired, gruden is coming, les is coming, kiffin is coming. I read it all on here!

It's all part of the process, brick by brick, we have to be resilient , it takes 7 years to get a coached fired in k ville, but we are champions of negativity, and I am proud of all vol-nation for never quitting!

The fact that he apparently saw no issues with the team during that 5-0 start says a lot about Jones.

Yeah, you don't apologize for wins but you also don't look past the facts it took overtime to beat App, only had a 1 point lead going into the 4th against Ohio, needed a Hail Mary to beat UGA, needed 5 fumbles to pull away from VA Tech, and were down 21-3 to a putrid FL offense.

I am beginning to think Butch doesn't " get it".

Yep we have starters as good as any team in the country, our overtime win vs. appy state proved it, ????????????????

Is it just me or does CBJ love to use two of the same words in the same sentence? Words such as very very, and in the article posted he used thoroughly, thoroughly. Like cmon man, please stop.

This is what worries me about Jones!?!?

I am afraid that after a "Thorough Examination" he won't change a thing?!

I hope I'm wrong! :crossfingers:

.
If that happens and we have another mediocre season......he gone!!!!!

Could be worse...A&M has had 3 straight 5-0 starts and they are in worse shape than us. If this is the reaction here, I dare not visit their message board since their coach also isn't going anywhere.

If he does such an in depth examination every year why do we continue to suck? Giving up 700 yards of offense to the opposition is a great place to start the examination.

While I still support Jones, primarily because of all the key injuries this year, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Further, to prove my injury "excuse", stop and think about Shoop a moment. He didn't suddenly become a poor coach when hired at Tennessee. Stoop has proven himself in the SEC and elsewhere! Maybe it's because of his assistants and if so let's see if Jones figures it out.

Having said what I said, you make excellent points! I agree!
:hi:

Yeah, jury is definitely out on Shoop still. I think he needs a healthy team and Jones needs to get out of his way.

It concerned me a little when there weren't additional changes at the position coaches when he was hired and they said they weren't changing the terminology.

Also concerns me with some fatal flaws of this system the last half of the season.

Bama seemed to expose the flaw of getting to the edge in the running game as away to beat UT.

Florida showed everyone else that the secondary was a major weakness. The first half of the FL game looked quite a bit like the Vanderbilt game.

If they don't get rid of Martinez, it's going to be another nail in Jones and Shoop's coffin here at UT. I am sure he is a nice guy but this is the second go around that he has proven he doesn't belong in the SEC.

I agree. It could certainly be worse. The Vols could have easily lost to Appalachian and UGA.

I personally don't think Jones is going to work at UT long term, but I don't advocate firing him without having another coach lined up, but there are much better coaches than Butch Jones, trust me:eek:k:

You could've said that about Nick Saban 20 years ago also.

My prediction is that he finds a lot of resilience and complementary football and declare everything will be just fine.

the used car salesman king of the sales pitch needs to start but sticking his head up his own rear and searching around for some game day coaching help...
then go apologize for sucking to every kid in the program and ask for their forgiveness
then actually do what he said he would do and work to get program back to where it should be.
8-4 this year was ABYSMAL

Butch needs to throw huge money out and get alabama's S&C coach--pay whatever he wants.
