That is why I thought it could be a problem...if prospective coaches didn't like the answers. Depending on the reasons for those numbers, our program should be spending more than several other league members.

I know Auburns went up from a little over 3 million a few years ago to 8 million now. The difference is, they built a new arena and are paying Barbee and Pearl.

Ours went down from 7 million to 4.8 million. We may have finished paying off something, and part of it is that Zo was making less than Pearl by a few hundred thousand.

The point is, for some reason they bounce around by a few million per season for most programs.

BTO's overall argument has merit. UT needs to be willing to go all in on hoops.

Those numbers are bogus though. I don't know what goes into them but if Hammy were here he would already signed Zo to a 2.2m deal and all his assistants would have gotten raises. We'd be up higher on the list and we'd be in the same spot.

That's fair, but like I said above, I'm sure Kentucky and Florida are consistently 1&2....coincidence?

Kentucky I agree but Florida has went up and down over the yrs.....I even read a report where u couldn't look at financials like this bc different teams put in different part of the universities expenses....it was why some looked like they were in the black and some were in the red.

Along this same topic, I heard Ainge discussing the numbers for basketball & football coaches combined salaries in the league. Seems to fall right in line with Hart preferring the cheap route, doubt that changes with this basketball hire.

Alabama- $7.5m
Florida- $6.7m
Kentucky- $6.4m
Auburn- $6.25m
Texas A&M- $6.0m
South Carolina- $5.9m
LSU- $5.4m
Arkansas- $5.4m

Just numbers that don't mean much. UT has pretty much all new coaches with track records that are unproven enough that they don't deserve the big money....yet. Hopefully Butch will deserve it soon.

Alabama - Of course their number is high, they have to pay Saban.

Florida - Donovan, and they are overpaying muschump

Kentucky - Cal

USCe - Spurrier

LSU - Miles

GA - Richt

So there is 6 of the teams ahead of us who have proven coaches in at least one of the big 2 sports. Of course they pay more. If say in 3 years, Butch is winning big and the new BBall coach is winning big and we are still near the bottom, then this is a fair discussion.

I'm willing to bet we were near the top when we had proven coaches.

Tennessee is not committed to basketball excellence. We want to give that illusion that we do and talk the talk, but we do not walk the talk.

What about Arkansas and Ole miss?

I get we shouldn't be top 5 with who our coaches are, but being 2nd to last is unacceptable with the revenue the fanbase generates IMO.

The success rate on hiring cheaper coaches is much less than hiring more proven/more expensive coaches.

Let's see who Missouri hires in basketball.

If we still have all of our current coaches in 3 years, are doing reasonably well and are still at the bottom of the payscale, I will totally, 100% agree with you. As of now, we don't have coaches in the big revenue producing sports who are producing results worthy if being top 5 in SEC salaries.

And as I said, I have confidence that Butch will be getting a big raise in the next couple of years.
