This is a good old boy network and if he doesn't talk with a slow drawl they won't hire him. Steve Spurrier would be the perfect example of what they want in a coach. They don't have the courage to go against the grain and choose someone that is young and innovative. Can you imagine what Pete Carrol or Lane Kiffin would do for recruiting at UT?

yeah, we won't hire a west coach football hc, kinda like how we would never hire a northern b-ball coach

This argument is based on.......oh, that's right, here say and and the fact we haven't hired a head football coach in almost 20 years. You can't say we always do something when we haven't even tried in 20 years. Last I checked Dave Clawson was from New York, Stan Drayton from Ohio, Steve Caldwell from Missouri, Jason Michael from Ohio.

Bruce is from Boston, his assistants from Iowa and Michigan just to name 2.

Our baseball coach is from Vermont.

Hell, Doug Dickey was from South Dakota.

I could keep looking around, but I think I've made my point.

Given UT's need for national recruiting, I think that factors in more than what type accent the coach speaks with.

True, but he made his name just down the road at Western Carolina and also at ECU under LeClair (sp).

I thought we were talking about football coaches. Say what you want about Pete Carroll and Lane Kiffen but they do have NFL connections and when a high school kid wants to be drafted in the NFL those coaches have more credibility and contacts.
Watching Pete Carroll on the sidelines calling recruits duing the USC championship game two years ago was priceless.

What do you think Dave Clawson, Steve Caldwell, Stan Drayton, and Jason Michaels coach?

So basically you're arguing that every other coaching position at UT could be filled by anyone, and the HFC has to be a southerner. And you're basing this on what exactly?

maybe its just me, but I have a feeling that recruits could care less if our HC is a southerner or not.

I have a feeling that everyone couldn't care less about where our coach is from. W's are W's.
