Tennessee went to the mattresses against the NCAA for Nico and he does THIS to repay them?

Dude was brought in to be the face of the program and was marketed around as the face of the program. Kid seemed to be controlled by someone likely his father. This whole thing was handled so poorly by Nico and family. Burned the program, burned his integrity as well. Tennessee will move on and be fine; the mountain will be higher to climb for Nico and company.
Sometimes you just gotta be Luke and tell dad „no“

Iamaleaveya is gone. Way overpaid for his ability the two years he was here. Good riddance. Thanks for having a pair, Coach.
We didn’t just pay him $ 4 million. We also paid untold amounts in legal fees to allow him the privilege of GETTING paid. Not to mention the amount we paid in travel in recruiting the kid. We will never know just how much the whole Nico drama cost the school; but it is well in excess of 4 million

I was little disappointed in the lack of fire and leadership from Nico last year anyway. He’s undoubtedly got a talented arm, but he never seemed to rally the team and the QB just needs to be that guy. I say goodbye to him without a lot of sadness… I think we’ll definitely be competitive w/o Nico.
They will be fun to watch... I think the floor goes from 9 to 6 wins if Merk starts... What was a favorable schedule becomes a bit of a gauntlet for the true freshman. I'm guessing he goes out there and has a day today the fans overreact and end up disappointed next fall. I'm pretty sure it is a family tradition.

If we are going to use a fantasy character, I shall refer to Nico henceforth as „Grima Wormtounge“. Sold out his country to the enemy and fled in disgrace

I would say the Grima in this tale is Nico's father or an agent who whispered sweet but poisonous words in Nico's ear that led him to his doom.

UT is pretty much in the same position as last year. Relying on an untested talented R-Freshman with a highly touted True Freshman behind him. Why should we fans expect anything less than 10 wins and the playoffs? The defense is still loaded, the O-line will be better, RBs will step up and keep rolling, the WRs under performed last year. Mike Matthews has been balling all spring and Brazzell has the talent and experience. They just need Staley and Jefferson to step up and the WR room will be ok. I expect them to reload and keep rolling, how many wins last year were all on Nico?

It’s pretty scary. The only time I saw Merk was third string cleanup duty, and oh was it ugly. He did not look good at all, and that’s being nice.

Yeah. One day it is going to dawn on the dad that he ruined his son’s career over a stupid game of chicken. I don’t think I could deal with that type of guilt very well. Just pure stupidity.

I don't disagree but it feels like something else is going on here. We know they were negotiating but there didn't seem to be a feeling it wouldn't get done or there was a tipping point coming.

Something shifted quickly in my mind.
His family wouldn’t budge on $4 mil. He would tell his teammate last one thing , but say/do another. And , his head wand tin the game during spring ball (according to those on the field) and locker room.

I think we are all agreed that Nico shall NEVER be called a VFL, correct?
I'm taking the rest of the weekend to bitch about this Nico crap and then it's time to shake and clear and get behind Merk and GMac. GBO!

Hurd left because of lies from Lyle. Didn't blame the kid a bit.

Hurd quit during the middle of a game. Lyle was a lying POS but Hurd earned his share of the blame...

Telling of all the players who trashed Lyle after he got fired there wasnt any defending JH

Word out of spring practice has been very consistent that Merk took a step forward and was impressing the staff and teammates. That was BEFORE the Nico situation went meltdown.

Take it for what it’s worth, it is spring practice. But knowing that the coaches saw improvement and strides is reassuring to me at least.

This will start backfiring on the players. They will be the catylist of their own demise. This type of thing is what will correct NIL cause schools will begin to start letting these players stay in the portal.

At the end of the day talent wise we likely don’t really lose anything anyway. Got Merk & Mac plus next years recruit that’s already lined up.

Or NIL deals will contain repayment clauses for walking away

Relatively speaking yes, but Sampson was spectacular last season. Bishop and Lewis together may both duplicate his numbers combined.

Defense lost Pearce.
