I did a bit some time ago about meeting Col. Gail Halvorsen - the "Candy Bomber" of the Berlin Airlift. He'd been a hero of mine since I was about ten.

Military History

One thing that has always impressed me about guys like him is that they are just simple down-to-earth people.

It re-enforces my opinion that there are no great heroes. There are simply normal individuals who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances and respond well. They don't whine, they don't run and they don't posture. They just put their heads down and get the job done.

One thing they all agree on is that the real heroes never came home.

That is some serious history. Thank You so much for reminding us how great Vols football can be and how great our country was during WW2.
My daddy was a Navy CB engineer, landing in Cherbourg one week after D-Day.

I also appreciate your comment on the awful state of history instruction going on in this country right now. The eggheads who currently are teaching - and writing - history have twisted themselves into pretzels trying to appease every sector of the population but the one that built this country. The modern "woke" crowd never lived through our greatest historical periods and neither did their parents. They find more importance in their facade of being morally superior. I have been stunned at how quickly the destruction of our country's core values has taken place. Sickening.
