wow thank you so much... i am at a loss for words to express how grateful I am to you for sharing that.

@MemphisVol77 - my dad did not share any of these stories with us kids (seven of us) .... but my brother in law spent countless hours interviewing him and taking notes and got him to open up about his WWII experience. His CBI crew keep in touch with each other until the day he passed. My Dad found out that his 8th AF crew was shot down and all of the crew was KIA (except one survivor who was captured by the Germans) when he was coming home on the SS Exchester when my dad met the brother of the crew's co-captain who told my Dad that they had been shot down and KIA.

Thanks again... I have the same fall allergies as the @Tin Man. I was blown away when I found out the first part of this story a few years ago. Finding out even more thanks to OMG and a vs. the Maxims thread. Gets overwhelming thinking that if not for a well thought out military decision 75+ years ago...
