Our OL vs their DL

71 Thomas 295 lbs-------45 Turner 250 lbs
-----------------------------------------
75 Schofield 315 lbs----------------------
-------------------------88 Bair 250 lbs--
73 Gooch 305 lbs------------------------
-------------------------99 Clark 255 lbs
74 Shaw 330 lbs-------------------------
-----------------------------------------
70 James 320 lbs---------58 Rowe 230 lbs

Their OL vs our DL

69 Thran 295 lbs---------84 Walker 245 lbs
-----------------------------------------
77 York 285 lbs--------------------------
-------------------------93 Hughes 315 lbs
54 Holmes 285 lbs------------------------
-------------------------57 Williams 250 lbs
79 Asper 320 lbs-------------------------
-----------------------------------------
68 Kaiser 290 lbs---------97 Jackson 265 lbs

We should be able to wear them our running straight up the gut. Their depth isn't any better at DT either. Their 2 back up DT's are 255 and 285. If we can't dominate the run game running straight at them we are in trouble for the season.

We are weak at DT as well, but our back ups there are both 285. We should be less wore out in the 4th than them. The secondary is going to have to play lights out for us to have a chance.

We need to get up quick so they have to throw... but i guess the same can be said for their game plan against us.

Those #'s are badly outdated.

Here are Oregon's updated #'s and depth chart.

Duck Depth Chart

Ricky Hemuli is 318 and will play a fair amount if Tenn is in a lot of power running sets. Kelikepi, the other primary back-up is 290.

Oregon is a bit light on the Dline, but I think the secondary is a bigger concern long term.

Not that it matters much and your point will likely still be the same, but those weights you have for the Oregon d-line are outdated or inaccurate. From the current official Oregon roster:

Turner-261
Bair-272
Clark-270
Rowe-232 (position is a hybrid and he's as much OLB as DE)

Bair, the best of our interior lineman, has said he is closer to 280 this fall and our next two DT's who rotate in and play a lot are 290 and 318.

What are you going to do when a 305 lb sweaty Gooch is pushing on you?

We need to own the O Line. Our D needs to worry about them just running around with that speed.

If it was me, I'd probably play dead until he became disinterested and then take a bath in sanitizer...but, I suspect Brandon Bair will make a different choice.

Bair will have no choice but to try and avoid getting sealed off by Gooch. If he avoids the Gooch there's nothing stopping him from penetrating the backfield or even getting a sack.

To me, the weight issue is for the most part a non issue. There is a reason our O-line has been rated as high as second in the country. Even if they are on the lighter side, they are the fastest and most agile line in the country...which is what is best for our offense.

Our D-line is small, but that only became an issue in one game last year...Stanford. And I respect Tennessee a lot, but their brand new O-line isn't as good as Stanfords was, and they don't have a Gerhart in the backfield. Our D-line than makes up for not being 300lbs with incredible speed and endurance. And besides, we'll play 8 or 9 D linemen (a few of which break the magic 300lb mark), and 7 or 8 linebackers. Getting worn out will most likely not be an issue.

Fortunately for us, Oregon's style of Oline play is exactly what we are best suited for. I think lasty time I checked we have 63 DE's. We should just stack 8 DE's in the box w 2 corners and a safety. :)
A small speedy line is much better for us than a meat wagon like Bama.
Unfortunatley for us, Oregon's small speedy line may be the best at that style in the country.
I am predicting a win for UT (no, I will not put money on it)

What hurts UT, I believe, is experience in our OL.
